I am seriously considering purchasing the Pontiac Vibe, but am concerned that it just doesn't look like a man's car. It's a utilitarian car, no doubt. I think a full roof rack rig would help, but are any grille guards or side step bars available for this model? I'm not looking to drop the height and go street car... can it be raised and given bigger tires? I just feel like I'm settling for a car that meets all my needs except for looks and light off-road capabilites. Any suggestions or advice welcome. Thanks in advance.
this is a week old pic, i have carbon fiber overlays on the pontiac symbols now, but with the mr. grille it looks betteras for other manly things, you could get a new exhaust for that rumble sound, idk if your into spoilers but they have 2, a top and midgate spoiler, i know the vibe to be dropped, but its always a possibility to raise it i would guess.
You know what they say about guys that drive them "manly" jacked-up, crew cab, F450, dual-Hemi, like a rock, moster trucks... they're compensating for "something". Well, I drive a Vibe.
speaking for the mods you mentioned. the vibe would be on the femenini side.never seen side step bars on the vibe. i'm sure you could possible rig something. there are roof rack accessories. the 05-06's don't have the bars. you could lift it up. haven't seen a front guard bar neither.you might want to look at a liberty.
my dad has a escape, nice vehicle, he also looked at the liberty but liked the escape more. saying the vibe is a feminine is like calling every 5 door hatch back a feminine car. those are all stereo types, whatever i drove a mini van before this (not by choice) and i didnt drive kids to soccer games....i drove friends to bars. its all what you make of it, although i did name my car elisha.
I really think its a cleaver blend of both.....something both sexes can live with ......My wife said whats that its cute ...I said yeah thats a pretty cool little car.Sure the first time I drove it to work I got the station wagon jokes ...but everyone who really checks it out thinks its pretty smart.BTW the guy that gave me the most Cr@p drives a Ridgeline (can you say mini van) ...so what does he know

This car is a unisex car in my opinion. Young, old, male, female, everybody drives it and looks natural behind the wheel. Kind of like the Mustang. If you are that insecure about that sort of thing I would mod it out a little to give it a more aggressive look.ie.
No one has said anything negative to me for driving a Vibe. If someone sees it and makes a comment, they have always had something good to say. Our cars are made for the street and with the AWD model I think it's made more for snow/rain and maybe dirt roads, but not much more than that. Putting side steps on our Vibes I think would be a little rediculous since getting into our cars is so easy; there is no climbing in. Sounds like you want something more like an SUV. Definitely would be different to see a Vibe turned more off-roadish, raised and bigger tires.

OK, I'm about to offend the '05+ owners on here.....I think the early Vibes look more masculine and the '05+ Vibes look more feminine. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the quick replies. I really appreciate everyone's opionions. I never meant to insult anyone who drives the Vibe- I mean, I am 90% sure I'm gonna get one anyways. Yes I prefer the look of Jeep Liberties/Wranglers, but I can't argue with the utilitarian values of the Vibe. Consumer Reports recommends it, I love the est gas mileage, and the cargo space + roof rack options seem like a smart buy; regardless of any meaningless gender associations.I am looking at the duotone 03/04's anyways. And (removed) jokes aside, I never intended to lift the thing 6 feet off the ground and add tractor tires to it... If I wanted to do that, I pick something more funny like a VW Bug or Scion xA. Maybe the Honda Element...

I think of the Vibe as a smart car. Great utilitarian flexibility, fantastic gas milage and can fit four adults. They can easily be personalized to taste given the motavation. A lot of the Vibes I see on the roads still are stock and that's fine but with a little effort you can really make a statement. Windows tinting 20% and nice rims add a little edge.As for the "manly" cars, when you commute 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day, a V6 or V8 don't seem so manly after all, just a little stupid to be idling in traffic at a $100 a fill-up. Cheers

I look at the Vibe like this, it's kinda like when you have to call someone, to line up a job interview for example, and the person's name is Pat, you don't know if it's a he or a she, but you know it is in fact a person. I think its neither and both at the same time. Wrap your mind around that one.

Drunken and Poopy, you guys are entertaining to say the least. All vehicles are refered to in the feminine. Especially ships and aircraft. Of course most ships are named after women, mosly the captains or owners wife, and that is were the reference of "she" comes from. As for the Vibe, any one looks good in it. Not only good, But smart too. You are smart for buying a sexy looking car that gets over 30 mpg.

Anyone see "Gone in 60 Seconds" ? Some of the most exotic & powerful cars and they gave them all Ladies names. Heck I'd be happy to give my car a Ladies' name

Code names. man but there was some sweet cars... specially the Cobra...

i don't call my car a name per say. my wife and i call it a t (V)-b.(vib)-(bee). i only called it femenine in lou to what he though was masculine. when i first got the car, my friends called it a soccer mom car too. it is really usufull. My wife likes it WAY more than i do. she whips it all over town.
Quote, originally posted by drunkenvibe »it must have been while he was kissing you!EEEWWW! ...anyway, back on topic... go ask the squished squirrel by the side of the road if the Vibe is manly enough! lol!
my wife(and her friends) thinks its cute(i hate when she says it though) the 67 year old lady next door thought it was cool. she even called he son and told him he should come see my car and hes like mid 30 something. the tint rims and spoilers on mine help it look less girly.but in contrast its looks more manly than a focus, areo, hyundi? or kia 5 door. and in my opinion a matrix.

Masculine..... definitely masculine! It's rugged and sporty and can haul things. Stuff a regular car can't do.I'd say it's more masculine than feminine!

Depends on if it is me or my wife that is driving. . Really it is sensible, and doesnt suggest either, as others have stated I believe it is unisexual.

My wife and I both like it, and I don't think either of us looks out of place driving it. Not sure if that helps. Mind you, we drive an '05, which is more fem. Still, I think it's got a male sporty look (not some miata) and the racks on top help. You can beef it up with the 17" tires easily (though you sound ready to do much more)Good Luck!!

The Vibe didn't make this list, so I guess we're somewhere in the middle. http://www.cartalk.com/content...-Cars/ I don't see it as being either manly or girly, it's just there. The Matrix seems feminine to me though.

But in French we say: "Une Pontiac Vibe" so a Pontiac Vibe is feminine. been a while since I knew any French, but instead of une Pontiac Vibe I would have expected une Vibe PontiacI don't think of the car as having a gender, or a name. It's "the car" and English doesn't force genderizing nouns so I can get away with calling it an it instead of a he or she.But if I had to pick one or the other, I'd say feminine because that would allow a number of suggestive comments and analogies that the forum guidelines probably keep me from posting here.
Get 2 tone or any 03 or 04 and it won't look femiine.

I haven't been on in about a week, and I just read the title of your thread. So my apologies if I am repeated what has already been said. Dude, this is the most fem car I have ever owned. Even the name is girlie. Ask any woman what the first thing that comes to her mind when she hears the word vibe. My guess is that batteries are required. Add that to a car that is more mini-wagon than sport or SUVish and I'm just suprised that they all don't leave the factory pink. If you have any more doubt just honk the horn. Is that just the gayest sound you've ever heard come from a car? Not that there's anything wrong with that. I was cut off and almost hit with my 11 year old daughter in the passenger seat and she went from horrified to laughing out loud in about half a second as soon as she heard my horn. She thought it was cute.

Or maybe it's just a euneuch (sp?). Buzz is slightly masculine but not overly so. Makes a girl happy but doesn't make my man uncomfortable. (I'm talking about the car here...)It's interesting how people have different perceptions of the same car. I think the side cladding makes it look more station-wagonish, which in my mind is more feminine. The sleek lines of the monotone make it a great car for any gender. Some colors look more masculine than others...I think a monotone fusion looks more masculine than some of the other colors I've seen...but I'd drive any color. I didn't get to pick color because mine was used, but this female drives a monotone satellite Vibe.
