Nav System Burped!

Post by esjones »

I was in Chicago earlier this week, enjoying the benefits of having a navigation system for guidance in a town with which I am unfamiliar.I had just passed through a toll booth on one of the expressways when the screen of the nav system just went blank! The radio continued to play. All buttons on the unit seemed unresponsive. I could not even use the eject button to eject the map disc. I could, however, press the volume knob to turn the unit on and off. (For those of you that have the system, though, you know that this doesn't REALLY turn it off, but just puts it into "clock" mode.) But in my case, even the clock display did not come on.While I was lamenting the fact that I had passed the 36,000 mile mark (no warranty) and was fretting over how much a repair bill on this US$1,100 option was sure to be, I decided to try a reboot.I waited until I was not surrounded by traffic, then slipped the 5-speed into neutral. I turned off the key, being careful not to turn too far, which would lock the steering wheel, then restarted the car.Voila! The nav system came back to life, and has not had a problem since then. I feel like I've dodged a bullet for the time being, but am a little nervous that whatever caused the thing to die on me once might happen again.Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Mine went retarded once.. It might've been the tollbooth transmitting something that wigged out the GPS unit. As long as it's resettable by a keyturn, you should be okay.

My stock radio did that last week!I blinked off then when I reset it, I updated the clock and it was 45 min's off.I tried updating it several more times and the clock was still off.It took a few days until, I figured out how to fix the clock manuelly.

I've NEVER successfully been able to get that auto-set feature to work on any of the cars I owned that had it......

*whew* That sounds like a close one! When in doubt my friends, REBOOT! lolNo nav system here, but I've had my single disc unit flake out on me a couple of times... Radio still worked, CD player worked, but it refused to eject the disc. Had to leave the ignition off for several minutes before it would cough up the disc...

My Nav system burped the other day. I have an 04. I started the car and the radio came on, but the Nav system did not fire up. I was able to turn the radio on and off, but nothing else worked.I even turned the car off and restarted, but nothing happened. About 5 mintues later the system kicked on and was functional.Any ideas?
