If it's a base cluster and your car is a GT, then the 05/03 debate is pretty much null. You can't put a non-GT cluster in a GT.

I really don't know much about clusters, but what's the difference between non GT and GT cluster? I believe that except for different suspension set up, rear disc brakes and engine, the rest is the same??

The speedometer is calibrated differently between the base and the GT to deal with the different gearing between the base and the GT. There was a thread here somewhere, someone with a GT had a base cluster put in by the dealer and the speedometer was always off.The speedometer meter itself is swappable, but I do not know if the difference in speedometer readings is due to a difference in the meter movement or in the circuitry that drives the meter movement. It is possible that swapping speedometers between clusters would solve the difference in calibration between the base and GT clusters, but it is also possible that it would not help at all.I do not know if the tachometer itself is different, it may be. It is possile that the tach signal feeding the tach is the same so the base tach would accurately display the GT RPMs, but I do not know if that is true. The rest of the lights and stuff should be the same. (although if the speedometer is off, the odometer is probably going to not count the miles accurately either)

I think he wants to put an 05 cluster in an 03 GT actually...And I believe the redline is higher on the GT then on the base, no?

looking at cluster pics in cars on ebay, the tach is different between the two clusters, but I don't know if it would display accurately. I do like the look of the newer clusters better though.

Yes, he could.I suspect he has easy access to an 05 GT cluster (ebay perhaps?) and that's why the question was posed.Just a guess though.

finehere is another. I put gas in the GT, started the base, closed the doors, and even fastened the seat belts. Left the parking brake on in the GT though

ragingfish, you are correct. I have a 03 GT with that ugly pontiac red cluster, which is ok during night time driving but really sucks during day time (DRLs are off & auto headlights) . And I want to swap it for the 04 or newer cluster. The guy from ebay didn't respond yet, so I guess we will see....thanks everyone for such a quick response.

There has been one on ebay repeatedly for $0.01, but with $125 mandatory shipping cost. Even if that was a great price, I wouldn't buy from anyone who has to be devious in their ebay listings. Hope it's not the same guy.
