Guess I'm one of FNG's here....

Post by PONKAW »

Hi there I'm Don, I've been looking for a new everyday driver for a few months now.... I was fortunate to run across an '03 GT with 28,000 and I'm really enjoying getting to know her.... Seems to have been well taken care of.Married for 16 years and have 3 kids .. work in the military (AirForce)I think this is a great active site and look foward to annoying the crap out of some of you guys when my searches don't turn out good First question: (I know that didn't take long...)When I took possesion of the care the arm rest storage had some goodis in it along with about 20 gas reciepts.... All were for regular gasprevious owner obviously wasn't concerned about using premium.Should I take a look at anything motor wise because of this? Also Here in Fort Walton we are having a bit of ta gas crises and its impossible to find premium. I've been using Octane booster to compensate. Any advice on this is very welcomed.Sorry for the Novel ... I look foward to a great stay here...Don

Some of the octain boosters are worse than running regular. Just run the highest octain you can find, leave the air off and take it easy until you find some premium.

Hello Florida New Guy! Glad to meet you, nice that you found us. You'll never hear anything about the search feature from me, I rarely can find anything with it either. And that's not a novel. Only thing I could suggest that hasn't been mentioned thus far would be to have someone scan the computer for trouble codes... If the previous owner was having serious issues due to the improper fuel, it would show up there provided how the battery cable hasn't been removed since. That won't do much to fix any damage, but it would at least let you know what problems were happening. For the lack of higher octane fuel in the area, just make do with what you can. There isn't m uch you can do to prevent this. Take it easy on the car whenever possible. Try to not give it as much of an opportunity to ping and knock as you can, hopefully you'll be ok. I don't know much about the octane boost stuff, so I can't comment on that... Good luck!

I wouldn't worry. Just change your oil, and use only premium gas from now on. I personally don't like octane boosters, and would just stick to the premium. Cars nowadays can compensate for just about everything, and while regular is not good for the gt engine, it should be alright.

welcome to the site.i've never rolled the dice with anything except premium in my gt, except when i was in oklahoma in july and they had 87, 89, 91, and 93 octane (i've never seen 91 at a gas station in texas), and i saved a few pennies by going with the 91.
