Descendants of the Vibe

Post by Jaycie685 »

http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/voltz/Pretty interesting... the "Voltz" goes back to 1999! The car in the 1998 pic might be a mistake or they put the wrong car??

The 1998 one definitely looks like it doesn't belong...it appears to be some kind of a Lexus...but the others seem to be a wagon version of the Echo. Moving it to the Vibe was definitely a good move...LOL

Well it's got a Toyota badge on it and I'm guessing it says "VISION" or "VISTA" or something like that as it starts with a "V". The 1999 one resembles a Daewoo Llanos (sp?). I'm really glad they made the Vibe look more SUV-ish than egg shaped!

The Vibe actually descended from Toyota Corolla, and not from those econobox. The nameplate Voltz for Toyota is another story. Just my opinion.

Shouldn't that be "Ancestors of the Vibe" ?I agree with m4VibeGT. The Vibe concept came out of GM anyway. I don't think any of those previous Voltz models had much to do with the Vibe. Toyota just kept the plate name and junked the earlier model, I would guess.EDITI can find no information on the Voltz nameplate being around before 2003. I think this "cars-directory" site is hosed and they are confusing the Voltz with the Toyota Vitz. This is a hatchback version of the Echo sold oversees. They are sold as hatchback echos in Canada, too. Here's a picture- you can see it's the same car:http://www.canadiandriver.com/...b.htmThis is some info the Vitz/Echo/Platz/Yaris (pic shows to 2-door coupe version):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Vitz

Totally different car, same name. The vibe is based on the Carolla platform anyways, so it has nothing to do with those other ugly things in those pictures.

So it looks like even though the picture is in the wrong place, that not only are they selling their "Pontiac" with the Toyota badging in Japan, but they're also selling a Lexus with Toyota badging, which is interesting to me...do they not sell Lexus there or might there be some other reason for that, I wonder...

That's not a Lexus. It's a Toyota Vista, which is an overseas nameplate for the Camry.Picture of Vista from nearly the same angle:http://english.auto.vl.ru/cata.../181/Info on Vista:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Vista

the is no lexus in japan they are all toyotas. the slap leather and a different name on a car to jack up the price is a ploy to appeal to americans who dont want a cheap toyota. when they can have a fancy lexus.

Isn't anyone wierded out by the fact that the 2002 models have a Pontiac arrowhead on the nose and a Toyota logo on the rear hatch?Ewwww....don't know why that bugs me, but it does.

Yeah that is weird! That is a true Ponyota!I don't see why it would need two different badges... they could have just combined them and made a completely new badge all their own.If that car was on a high speed chase with the cops, it could elude them because it's a Pontiac from the front and a Toyota from the back!

It's probably now a V for Voltz or Vista.

1995 Geo Prizm

Post by BMWR80RT »

When my wife and I got married, a 1995 Geo Prizm came with her. Eventually after two kids we wound up with a minivan, and I inherited the Geo. The prizm was made in the same factory in CA as the Vibe, alongside the corola, which shared the same components, much as the Vibe/Matrix. I hated the Geo, because it was too dependable. We were a little strapped for cash buying a new house, but tooling around in a Geo prizm isn't too cool. But it never broke. I think in 187,000 miles, the only thing besides brakes done to it was the timing belt. I did it myself, and it was no more difficult than most. When I rented a Matrix on a business trip, I knew right away that it was built on a Corolla/Prizm chassis. That's when I knew I had to have one. That my father in law was a GM employee and I could get the employee discount made it a no brainer. But I laugh when all the turn signal, cruise control stalks, and lots of other parts are the same as my 1995 Prizm......not a bad thing.Take CareSteve

it's latin, means something to the effect of "though my fault" I used it perhaps stretching the meaning to mean " I am guilty of that" whch is a common usage although not being a Latin scholar I can not say how accurate it is. Stang could tell us though.Only other Latin I know is Veni Vidi Vibi which means "I came, I saw, I drove my Vibe"
