I've seen on eBay and TV this little round metal disc, that has slots in it. To make the air into a Vortex as is goes into the engine. Its pretty cheap. Supposed to give better MPG and hp. Is this for real, or is it a scam? TV has it for $75, but on eBay its much less.Anyone?diz
after reading a few pages worth of replys, there was nothing really intelligent said. jet engines... aircraft jet engines (ducted, supersonic)have what is called a vortex generator. the tornado is that. it creates a flow for air to fallow. the preassure loss in the cylinder sucks air in. the vortex generator removes turbulance that keeps air from from flowing as fast as it can. in my opinion.. it might work. keeps everything looking stock if that's what you want.CAI are not always the best way. specially when paying 200$ some dollars (AEM). why don't you get, if it works let us know. if it doesn't. put it back on ebay.
The engine in a vibe works a little differently than a jet engine. I think that if a little shaped piece of metal could boost HP and MPG, then the car makers would put one in. I expect they spend a lot of money in research to improve power and efficiency. Anyway, would be great if it worked, but I am not going to risk any money on it because I have serious doubts.
I tried it in my old S-10 and it made my mpg worse. The air going into your engine is not a constant flow. I don't believe those venturi things work at all.

I would think manufacturers would implement something like this stock if it increased gas mileage, especially in a truck from 13mpg to 17 mpg. I mean, that's an increase of over 30%. I would just think if it worked that great all the time, these things would be more widely used and known to work.
Justin 2003 Vibe GT - Mille Miglia Evo5 18x8 Wheels (now stock)- Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust (now stock)- Tein S-Tech Springs (now stock)- Injen CAI - Red Painted Calipers - Hella Supertone Horns - Polk Speakers - Bazooka RS8A-HP Sub - Kenwood Headunit - Still love my Vibe, but I've just turned it back into a basic daily driver.
You'd think they would. They may not all work since they are not all the same but the one we purchased at pepboys works great. I told my dad they were a joke but he said they have been around for years so he put one in our truck and it actually does work.

You end up with very well atomized fuel in a very turbulent flow of air into your engine ... end result, little or no gain whatsoever.Do yourself a favor -- pass on this and buy and equally useless strut tower brace -- at least you can see it ....

I don't believe those venturi things work at all.Actually, if this item had anything to do with the Venturi effect it would help quite a bit, but only above say ... 5000RPM and it might make 4-5 HP more in that range. A Venturi is basically a cone that is designed to create a denser charge of air because the entrance of the cone is wider than the exit -- a byproduct is a slight spin to the air, but the benefit is not in the spin, its in the denser charge of air. It only works at high RPM though. You'll find drag cars and race cars that run at high RPM with large venturi stacks, but their engines spend their entire lives above 6000 RPM ...Tornado is a vortex without the venturi effect whatsoever -- basically just a turbulence adder. Why is turbulence bad -- well, why is porting and polishing your heads good? The rough areas inside the runners of your heads make the charge of air more turbulent. To remove that turbulence you use a mill to polish the surface of the runners to eliminate turbulence. Only a tard would add something to make the air more turbulent ...

Oops, I meant vortex not venturi. I didn't even know they used venturis in race cars, so I learned something new from my brain fart. My whole point about the vortex is that it is supose to flow air more effectively by forcing it to spin like a wirlpool. Won't work in an engine since the flow is not constant, and more or less pulses.
