Steel braided brake lines

Post by kimchimik »

hey guys i'm new to the scene and ran a search already and found no topic on this. I am going to be comming into a free set of steel braided brake lines in the near future. I was wondering as to the pro's and cons of installing them. I have a Base Vibe with a CAI installed, just did that yesterday and one point i have to make is remember which hoses go where. Anyways any information would be great.

I am no expert on brake line install's but if your going to redo the brake lines for the rear (and you have a base or awd vibe) then get disc brakes for the rear.

Besides appearance, the biggest advantage of stainless braided brake lines is that they are stiffer and don't swell as much under pressure, thus giving a less 'spongy' brake feel. They are also much more durable, especially at high temperatures, as on a race track. One thing to watch out for: Many such lines are designed only for racing and have not been designated or certified for long term street use. Certified 'street legal' lines must meet very stringent pull and durability tests.

you know i really don't know if they're certified for long term street use that's something i'll have to find out. Right now all i know about them are that they're stell braided lines. My cousine owned a vibe and traded it in and had those lying around when i get them in i'll know more about them.

BSS lines are 10 times more duable as rubber. The reason most are not DOT approved is the braid on the outside can wear on any parts they touch. NOW you can get vinyl coated BSS lines that are DOT approved. Just have to check around.
