GM pulls out of Exchange Military Car Sales Program

Post by soldierguy »

Today I ran into the salesman who I bought my Jeep from (but had previously ordered and cancelled a Vibe GT, PT Cruiser GT Convertible, and a Liberty CRD), and he told me that GM pulled out of the Military Car Sales program. That's the program that allows miliary members overseas to order & purchase US-manufacturer vehicles at prices comparable to the employee prices, then have them delivered to either their overseas location or delivered in the US to a location of the servicemember's choice. So now it's just Daimler Chrysler and Ford/Lincoln/Mercury.That kinda sucks...I was asking about the new Solstice. I like the looks of the Saturn Sky better, but just wanted to see if they were taking orders on the Solstice.

Kind of a kick in the shin to the hardest working people, the men and women who serve this country. This is definatly not the right way for GM to save money. I would gladly give up my suppliers discount to keep the military program alive. I give a thumbs down to GM for this one!!

As I understand it, it's a money thing. Apparently participating manufacturers contribute to the salaries of the salespeople...I guess GM figured the returns on the investment were not worth it.If local sales here are any indication, I can kinda understand it...not very many GM vehicles are sold here in Korea. Mostly Jeeps (Liberty and Grand Cherokee), and Dodge minivans. Biggest GM seller over here seemed to be the Vibe...I see quite a few here, but numbers are quickly diminishing because current owners are leaving the country and there hasn't been a new one for sale here in several months.Still though...it's nice to have options for ordering vehicles.
