Fun while it lasted!

Post by Solstice06 »

I've had my Vibe for just under 2 years and loved every day of it. Its over now. Just totaled it in an accident last week. Rear ended/skidded into a guy who had rear ended the guy infront of him - my brakes just didn't hold up on the wet pavement. So with the Vibe likely to get a redesign for the 2007 model I'm moving onto a Mazda3.I'm still really bitter about my trashed Vibe though!!! The air bags didn't even deploy yet over 10K of damage!! Sorry but no pics.

Another reason why people should always pony up for ABS, and carmakers should make it standard.Glad to hear you're okay. Enjoy the Mazda3! (But be aware it doesn't have as good a safety rating as the Vibe)

yes, glad to hear your ok! another vibe bites the dust you should wait and get the mazdaspeed 3 awd turbo!!.I agree that cars should have all disc brakes and abs it makes changing them easier and braking better, although whats the stopping distance between the gt and the base model?

Sorry to hear about your wreck. I Hope everyone's ok. Cars can be replaced... people can't. Good luck with the new vehicle.

you are here to type about the accident, and didn't mention any serious injuries, so it sounds like the VIbe sacrificed itself to save you, even without the airbags going off it still protected you, so maybe the airbags didn't need to go off. Don't know, but hope you are ok.Did the brakes not hold or did the tires slip?I wanted pics of the wreck Any chance you were able to pull the roof rack cross bars off the thing?

abs does not stop your vehicle, it just allows you to steer while braking because it prevents brake lock up. I'm glad ABS was not standard on the Vibe... I don't/didn't want it on mine. A fautly abs system is more likely to cause an accident then non-abs brake lock up.Sorry to hear about your Vibe though, enjoy your new car and baby it to.

it's sad to hear about your car, but good thing you are ok. and abs can be a real life saver up here, especially in the winter! however, like mav said, it doesn't STOP the car and you can still get into accidents.

ABS doesn't "stop" the car. But it can bring the car to a stop more quickly in certain conditions. I've owend two cars with ABS, two without. I remember vividly I skidded often when I didn't have ABS. Sometimes into intersections!!! Especially in snow. Since I've had ABS, I've always felt more confident, and certainly, I have never had as dangerous a scare as skidding into the middle of an intersection (which, as mentioned above, happened without ABS).That being said, I'm confused as to why someone would sign up just to tell us they're dumping the vibe? Seems kinda..."off." I just never knew people to sign up for a car enthusiast forum only after they ditched the car.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

ABS is awesome! It does help stop the vehicle quicker than without, per the drivers foot stays on the brake. It has saved me on the ice many times. If a fault were to occur with ABS, it returns to normal non-ABS braking and the ABS light comes on. People that are still uneasy with it to this day like when it came out, need to go to a snow covered parking lot if they can and start using it to understand how their vehicle will react.

I just never knew people to sign up for a car enthusiast forum only after they ditched the car.Well, maybe he's been a lurker and read the site daily, and has come to know and love us, but unfortunately due to the accident he is moving on from the vibe, and signed up to say farewell, not having anything to say before, but seeking closure on his daily pleasure of two years of owning this car.or, perhaps he felt that there is an design inadequacy in the Vibe that caused him to follow too closely for the speed he was driving resulting in him not being able to stop in time, and wanted to warn us of the danger.or perhaps he is one of the MO trolls who promised to post over here, pretending to believe option two. My car sucks because I rear ended someone. That's the kind of thing they were threatening to do to stir up trouble and make fun of us. For now, I'll go with a variant of option one, been a genvibe reader, loved the car, is moving on after it was totalled, and is saying farewell.

Yes it does look wierd I know but there is a reason. I followed the site for some time after purchasing the Vibe. My user name was "Anegada" I haven't been to the site for quite some time and I couldn't remember my password or the email address I used to sign up!!I don't think ABS could have helped...but now I'm one of thos drivers who leaves 20 car lengths between me and the car in front of them!!!

After you've had the Mazda3 for a little while, post back how it compares to the Vibe.
