Computer case poll

Post by cohocarl »

My wife recently talked me into buying a new computer desk (the old plastic laminated fiberboard desk/hutch was showing it's age) and there is a cubby hole in the new desk for the computer to sit in which looks much less cluttered, but this is the first time in years I have had my case cover screwed on. I always used to either keep the case side either unscrewed or off all together because I'm always fooling around with different h.d.'s, ram, processors, etc. I'm already ticked off that the computer is in the cubby hole because I wanted to hook up a spare h.d. I have in the computer. Now I have to unplug 1/2 of my connections and bang my head on the bottom of the desk a couple times to mess with the computer. Just wondering how many others leave their computers accessible, or leave it sealed up, not touching anything inside.I leave my computer's case cover:

Mine has a latch I can pull - similar to the old Alienware case doors. It lets me yank the door and clear the fan and heatsink when it starts to run hot - dust bunnies suck.

Mine is similar to binary's case and it's aluminum. I have a desk with a cubby hole for the tower and I was always hitting my head on the desk when I wanted to do something inside the PC so I just got extension cables for everything so I can slide the case out and not have to unplug anything to work on it. MUCH EASIER!

Mine is sitting on the floor where my chair slides into the desk. The nook where I wanted to put it isn't big enough to hold it. If I have to do something that requires me to take the side panel off than it is getting unhooked to matter what. Don't want a static spark or anything to mess it up, and I need to get it where I can see what I am doing.

I open mine about once a month to clean out any dust. I have 5 fans cooling it down. Lol, it actually heats my room.

I leave my side case on to keep air flow in the case good. As i have the front fan suck, 2 back ones blow out, side blow in and the top blows out. edit: oh yea i use thumb screws, because i open my case so much that i have thumb screws on both side panels, dvdrom/dvdburner and both hdds, i think even the video card.

I have a huge clunky Gateway that's about 6 years old. It used to have two thumb screws holding the side panel, but I've opened it so many times that one screw is stripped and the other is lost. I think the dust bunnies are the only thing holding it all together.

I have one of my drive ports open to allow better ventilation. My CPU fan is incredibly noisy so I had to cool it better, the fan hardly comes on anymore.

I leave my computer fully closed up for obvious reasons... It's too beautiful to have its guts hanging out, and besides, um, it requires putty knives to crack open. My linux boxes used to stay open, but I actually keep the one I have left closed up now too... After owning the mini, the beautiful, wonderful lack of any sort of sound whatsoever coming from the 'puter makes me wish I could make the PC quiet. First step in that project is closing up all the steenkin' holes, although that isn't doing much good.

Why, thank you! I'm part of the metrosexual revolution, or something.Or I was too lazy to take a picture of my own 'puter and googled it instead. Or I wasn't able to take a pic because I can't find the mini since i't buried under a pile of garbage and I haven't seen the little booger in a couple months. Take your pick between either option 2 or 3, both will be very valid choices, #1 not so much... lol!

Well err.. when people talk about how "good" their computers are, people usually say you're trying to make your epenis bigger.Like you seem better than other people or something.I don't have any pet names for my computer apart from 'the computer'

It's not going to be anything super big, but it is an AMD 3000+ xp barton core, 512mb of 400mhz pc2700 DDR (I'll pick up another 512mb chip soon), Chaintech 7NJL6 Socket A ATX Motherboard, 60gb H.D. 133ata, 400w p.s., and scab from my present computer an ATI 9550 128mb-128bit, 8x agp, DX9 video card, an ATI TV wonder, Firewire card, my old 60gb h.d., and an NEC dvd drive. 19" Dell lcd display is cool. My old/present 1800+ xp epenis is working fine, and has served me well, but I can put my old 32mb ATI A.I.W. video card back in it and use it as a "game" machine for my 4 year old who loves to play Hamsterball, Tonka monster trucks, along with some other games that won't on the wife's 800mhz laptop, and a couple of nickjr.com online games. The AIW video card has a video out that I can hook up to the input switchbox on his 27" playstation tv. Please note that my epenis in the picture below is not fully erected yet, and also that sometimes it's not the size of your epenis, but now you use it. (at least that's what I hear )

Well, having built PC's as cheap as $500 all the way up to the most expensive systems for clients who want the best without getting ripped (Aprox $4,000 for all parts), I've seen it done alot of ways.Mostly, however, on my personal systems (although I havnt had my own since 32bit was still all the rage, looking to remedy that soon), I had a Cooler Master Wave Master case, a 500watt Antec PSU, ABIT NF7-S MCP-T mobo, Mobile Barton 2500+ @ 2.6ghz/430fsb, 512mb DDR PC3500 ram, Radeon 9800 Pro OC'd with an Artic Cooling Silent Cooler Rev 3.0 cooler, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card, ATI TV Wonder Pro TV Tuner card, and other various PCI Goodies (no emtpy slots on my PCI row), CD-RW, DVD-ROM, two hard drives, and a floppy, it was rather crowded in that tiny case, I spent probably 12-14 hours routing wires etc so that it was all neat and tidy. Due to the cramped nature of the case, during heavy OC'd gaming or CPU intensive stuff (graphics work, 3D work in 3DS Max etc) I kept the side off, just to be safe, but with a Thermalright XP copper cooler, it never went above 52C no matter what I did, average Idle was 32C, average under heavy load was 45C, mostly never higher than 47, only got to 52 when I purposely stressed the CPU with a program designed to do just that to test your system and memory for leaks. But just to be double sure, when I was playing really intensive games, I would leave the side off, other than that, side on

Mine has two screws on the side and the cover slides off. I vote keep it on with thumb screws.
