I've got a problem, or at least I think I do. Whenever I run my AC, my windshield fogs up something terrible. I mean, I can't see out of the thing. I have to turn off the air, turn up the heat, then turn on defrost. I'm serious, I actually have to run my defrost in the summer. I did the AC mod mentioned in another thread on here, and it worked great. Mine was about half inch off. AC is good and cold. But I have this fogging issue. I went to WalMart and bought some rainx no fog....and I covered the inside windshield with it. It didn't even make a difference.I've noticed that when I have the air selection (I don't know what you call it...the dial that directs air to either feet, face, mix, defrost) turned on the face or feet, a LOT of air is still coming out of the defrost. Is this normal? Could it be an adjustment that is wrong and not allowing the doors to switch all the way? And if so, is that something I can do (the AC adjustment was a piece of cake) or do I need to take it to the dealer? Thanks for any advice!
The "fog" is probably on the outside, due to the cold windshield which is why rainex didn't help.Sounds like maybe a vent routing problem, but I don't really know.Something you should be aware of, though - the "defrost" setting turns on the A/C, even though it does not light the A/C switch LED.

That's certainly abnormal, and this is coming from a guy who has had just about every problem imaginable with his Vibe. With the mode knob set to blow through the dash vents, you shouldn't be getting anything out of the defroster vents. When it is set to defrost or defrost and floor, then of course you should be getting air coming out.I believe you see what I'm seeing when I try to run the defrost on a damp night and I have the air set too cold... The windshield fogs up something fierce, and I usually have to crank the heat up a bit to get it to clear up. If something is causing the air to blow through the defroster vents at all time, all that cold air being blown onto the windshield nonstop - I can certainly see why you would have fogging. My non-professional guess is that the damper that controls the airflow isn't adjusting itself properly and does not seal off the duct that goes to the defroster vents. I'd take it to the dealer, it doesn't sound normal. Luckily, this particular setup is still in the stone age, where many manufacturers have moved to motors and electronics to change the airflow, this car still uses very low-tech cables and such to do the job so there isn't much that *can* be wrong with it.If the windows were fogging when you had the defrost on regardless of temperature, I'd vote for heater core... But I think this is just simply the air is going where it shouldn't.

yes, that doesn't sound right especially if you still have a lot of air coming out of the windshield vents on face/foot mode. mine didn't do that, just had a slight breeze.
I went and checked my car out tonight... Cranked the fan all the way up. The ONLY setting any air came out whatsoever up there was when the mode knob was at the defrost or defrost/floor. Everything else, not the slightest bit did I feel coming out of there.

No..that sounds wrong.. does the air come out the different vents when you move the selector? It could be as said, a routing problem with the air..something with the selector..Either way, if you've only had it for a week, i'd bring it back and get it fixed.

Definitely dude, take it back to the dealer and make sure to see that the service advisor/manager verifies the concern with you, so that they can't say "No problem found" As a field engineer for GM, I know this is not normal. Probably a temp mode door issue with the air coming out the dash. And as far as the fogging up, it is probably the heater core or evap. core. Thanks and hope that helps!
