Go get gas now.

Post by Mr. Poopypants »

The owner and CEO of the company I work for also owns a local petroleum company. He sent out an email to the office today saying that gas prices will go up as much as 20-30 cents per gallon tomorrow because of Katrina. Go fill up the tank tonight.

At the place near me that consistently has the lowest price for gas around, the price went up ten cents between when I drove past it on the way to work and when I drove past it on the way home today.

I'm glad I filled up at Costco on Sunday. I could have waited a few days (wasn't empty), but I wasn't driving by that part of town for a week. So, sounds like most places will hit over $3 then. I guess we'll see.

Went to the grocery yesterday 2.59 on the way there, 2.74 on the way back. Was down to 2.59 again today. I'd pay $3.59 if the extra dollar went to those poor souls that got hammered by Katrina. Don''t understand why they didn't spend the $$$ years ago to shore up that lake.

If that money went to help out those that actually needed the help and not to line some oil tycoon's pockets, you bet I'd pay $3.59 a gallon too. I'm sure many of us would.

Gas here across the river from Louisville, KY was $2.72 yesterday. Bright and early this morning, we're looking at $2.92, 87 octane. Hang on folks...Too bad the price of vaseline is probably gonna skyrocket too, we're sure as hell gonna need it.

They are going to release oil from the national reserve, maybe the price will come down a little bit in a few days.

The mom&pop stores are usually highr, but they react slower to price spikes, so I was able to buy gas this AM for 2.559/gallon. Probably jump 30 ¢ by the time I get back there.

I have a lot to be thankful for - at least this means $1.40 more for a full tank. It could be a lot worse. If I were driving a GT around here Premi-yum just hit 3.08 (a .15 jump) this morning. Farking aye!

It's over $3.00 here on Long Island. My worry is that once they have us paying this price it will never go down.

Like I have said in the other gas threads today it is being reported that the price in Montreal has reached 1.34$ a liter. For our American friends that equals to 4.28$USD a gallon!

I'm so depressed about it It's something that I rely on and can't live without. If I had a choice I'd say FU to the gas companies but there's just no chance...

I'm considering riding my bike to work - 18 miles each way...should save me about $30/week (considering I could no longer drive at lunch) plus help reduce my growing gut. The only problem is that there are no cycler friendly roads between my house and work.

On my way home from work (with the low gas light on already), I stopped by the nearest station. $2.69/gal (they were just getting ready to change it to $3.09 as I left). I waited in line for about 20 mins to get a pump (5 cars waiting at each pump), then took 5 minutes for my credit card to authorize... what an experience!

My mom just called and told me that people are lined up like crazy to pay $3.39/gal at home, where it's usually a lot cheaper than it is up here. They're blocking the entire right lane of a highway just trying to get into the Texaco. This is crazy...I just wish I knew what we could do. I remember a couple of years ago when gas went up to something like $1.60 and people were upset then, and it was supposed to go back down, but it never did. It was supposed to go back down from $2-something earlier this summer, but it hasn't. Where will this stop? I'm afraid it's not going to.

as I said earlier, I filled up Monday night at $2.49/gal. The Same station was at $2.89/gal at noon today when they ran out of gas, as did every other gas station on West Main in Lebanon TN. The only grade gas left was premium at $3.29/gal, and it was going fast. I've only driven about 25 miles this week: I filled up in case I had to go to MS to get my wife if something happened as far north as Starkville. I'm not sure why it has gone up so fast, are the oil companies doing this to pad their pockets, or are we really this short on gas already? New Orleans is the #1 inlet for crude oil in the country, and that has to have something to do with it, but so soon? This is looking more and more like the docudrama "OilStorm".....

Up here in (removed) Falls, Indiana I find it very difficult to believe that Katrina's impact in the gulf stretched this far north and had such an impact on the oil supplies that were already here WAY BEFORE the storm hit!!! I know I'm just pulling this out of my (removed), but damn, I'm thinking that the gas that is in the tanks now at the quickie mart for $3.29 a gallon is the same crap that was in there a few nights ago for $2.44 and came from the same distribution center that had plenty of gas laying around prior to the storm. I would think that if they were running out, we wouldn't see a crunch like this for quite some time to come. It's not like they take the crap out of the ground and you dump it in your tank, I'm not too schooled on the art of petroleum refining, but I would think that it takes some time to get it from the ground to your tank. It sure as hell doesn't happen overnight. They're simply doing this because the oil companies know they can get away with it. They have friends in high places, if you know what I mean. Their friends will look the other way while the poor folks like us who can't make ends meet will be driven to financial disaster while the pockets will be fatter than ever for the oil companies. I'll bet my last $10 that despite all the losses in the oil industry along the gulf coast that those crooked bungholes will still be churning profits.

I was just watching CNN and they showed a gas station in Goergia charging $6.07 for premium. Talk about price gouging. The Governor of Georgia is going to be cracking down on the stations.

Fellow vibegen'ers, I feel your pain! Therefore, I have developed a new gauge mod to help things along.Forget about the conventional 'F' for full and 'E' for empty, CP's new gauge face takes things a step beyond! It still has 'F' at the top for 'You're doing just fine" but also has an 'F' at the bottom for 'dude, you're f.....!!!' er, perhaps I should say, 'you're not doing so fine!' This will make it clear how much trouble you'll really be in if you let the needle dip down that low! Bye bye one week's paycheck! You didn't need to feed your family anyway, did you? Send a self addressed, stamped envelope to Helliburton, Inc. to get yours today! (removed)
