Installed new Moroso oil pan

Post by Lancer »

Finally got to install my new Moroso oil pan I got from Monkeywrench.com after staring at it for a couple of weeks. It took them over a month to get it to me. First impresion of it taking it out of the box was, "Damn, this things big!" My second was, "Umm, Shiney!"

After winning the S/C off Ebay i realized I really didn't need the new oil pan any more since the main reason I got it was for the extra 2qts of oil and the built in oil return line bung I wanted for the ATR turbo kit. I checked to see how it would fit on my car and saw that I had a deep ding on my original oil pan, I'm guessing from hitting a chink of ice last winter, so since I already have the new one I'll just keep it and show it off at shows and while having my oil changed in the winter or when I don't feel like doing it myself.

The hardest parts of the install were first removing the stock oil pan from tne silcon gasket. had to use a hammer and chisle for that. And installing the new pan with it's 1/4 inch flange. Especially up near the transmission. I ended up having to install the new pan and intalling the studs after.

There is no gasket to replace. I went to the Toyoda dealership for one and they gave me a tube of sealant for $14. It came with a tool to help spread it out. The stuff is messy as hell and got everywhere! I managed to apply an even coat but I found trying to find the holes for the studs to be difficult with the sealant covering everything.

Once installed it looked really sweet under there. I wasn't sure if I had to wait for a day for the sealant to turn rubbery before I could fill the pan with Amsoil, but the instructions for the sealant said the engine could be started in an hour or two so I filled her up with 5 1/2 qts of 5w10 Amsoil. I like this pic. You can see the end of the sport header, the Unorthodox racing cam pully, the painted brake caliper, and the new oil pan.

Later on that night I took the car for a short drive to exchange some movies. When I cam back i noticed a small oil leak. The next morning I checked and it was just a little bigger. After work in the parking lot there were 2 small spots where oil had leaked, So I got hom e jacked the car up and rre tightened everything. Two days later and nothing dripping. I was a little worried at first cause I didn't want to spend another $35 on new oil if I had to redo the seal on the pan. Here's the last pic with the splash guard inplace. Some people were worried that the pan might not fit under their cars cause they lowered them. The Moroso oil pan doesn't go any loer then the splash guard.

I paid way too much, I think, for the oil pan. I got it from Monkeywrench.com for $450. No, those are deffinatly NOT the stock header (have you seen a stock one? ). It's a DC Sports ceramic covered header for a celica gt I made to work in my car.

The big thing is I had to take the header to a muffler shop to have them drill and weld an O2 sensor bung into it. The celica header is just ever so slightly angled to the drivers side. And the flang on the stock mid pipe is about 1 1/2' wider than the flange on the lower header. That had to be modified. But because the pre-cat or catilitic converter is right at the flange, installing the spring bolts was really hard and is probly the cause of the leak when it's warm out. I plan to have a custom mid pipe made just as soon as I have money to do so.

Did you check to make sure the stock oil pick-up works with that pan?
