lock with remote and the unlock button is disabled

Post by vibebob »

its been hotter than hades lately and I've been leaving my windows down at work. soooo, I was worried/wondering if someone could reach in an unlock the doors. NOPE, I tried it and when you lock the doors with the remote, it disables the lock/unlock button on the door.sorry if this seems basic, but I thought it is cool.

Hmmm... It does disable the lock/unlock button, but you can still reach in and manually unlock the doors with the lever which is in closer reach than the button.

I noticed the same thing a while back. Keeps people from using whatever tool, reaching in, and hitting the unlock button to gain access. A while back, I locked a set of keys in the car. Silly me, left 'em lying on the seat. Called 1-800-roadsid and had a locksmith pay me a visit. He took the long, crooked metal tool (whatever their termn is for that thing) and wedged the door open enough to get access to the inside. I had to tell him that his idea of trying to reach in and push the door unlock switch wouldn't work since they are disabled once the doors are closed and locked. He ended up using the thing to flip the remote over and hit the unlock button that way.

like somebody else said. the button might not work but if the window is open enough. someone can just push the manual button and voila!!!!!speaking of this. if you start up the car, you can't use the remote control to lock the car neither. that sucks! during winter, on my last car ( sentra spec v) you could lock the car as it was started and keep it running without the car being left open. this car on the other hand....

You see, Toyota's trying to keep people from locking their keys in the car, yet they are promoting theft of their vehicles in the process so they can sell more, or something. One thing I loved about my Malibu's keyless entry - you just started the darn thing up, closed the door, locked the door with another key fob, and once you're ready to come back out to the car, use that same second key fob to unlock the doors. Perfect, especially if you're like me and carry around 2+ sets of keys. With this car, if you want to lock the door when it is running, you have to use a second key and lock it from the outside after closing the door... It would be super nice if the friggin' remote wasn't disabled if the key was in the ignition too, but that ain't happening. Oh well, what can ya do? It's illegal in many jurisdictions to leave your car running unattended anyway... heh

I sense the idea WAS to keep people from leaving the car while it's running.

Most people probably either (A) aren't carrying a spare key or (B) aren't smart enough to know to use it. SO, if people can't remote lock the car with the key in the ignition, they *theoretically* won't leave it running, thus *theoretically* reduce the chance of theft from a guy walking by who jimmies the lock and takes off because the fricken key was in and the car was running.

it's till posible. i believe (i haven't done it with this car yet because i just realized it) like in all of my previous cars. if you hold down the manual lock with the car running. the car will recognize that you really want to lock the car and do so. it's an override. but with the remote disabled... now we need to walk around with a spare key.actually i'm going to try this today and see what happens.

ok, went out there and did a test. yes, the car can still be locked with the engine running. you just have to hoild onto the manual lock switch. no problem. then the problem is that the rem,ote won't work. so, you need a small key in your wallet to open the car up.i'd rather do that than freeze for 5 minutes in the car while it warms up.

Just think - because of this little annoyance - the insurance companies like it that much more. And you save money on your car insurance.I think that's a slick idea, disabling the unlock rocker button. It's a lot tougher to unlock the door using the manual lever with a coathanger. Then again - if they want in, they'll just:A: bust the window and take whatever they wantB: wait for you to return and get it then.

I've been working on this problem all night and finally found a solution:1) Get in the car and close the door.2) Lock the doors.3) Start the car.4) Pop the hatch.5) Crawl out through the hatch6) Close the hatch.

Has this been tested? I'm willing to bet that as soon as you close the hatch glass, the doors will unlock. lol

the door will unlock. if you really want to leave your car running, and keep it locked..1- get in car2- start the car3- open driver's door4- hold down the manual lock for 2 seconds (the car will try unlock itself against you)5- leave the car with a spare key readily availablenote- I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU LOCK YOUR KEYS IN YOUR CAR, OR IF IT GETS STOLEN
