XM Skyfi install... if unplugged leaves Radio, Dash 12V ON!... help

Post by Dj_kulture »

Apparently the previous owner of my vibe (i got it at 4,700 mi) had a delphi XM reciver installed aftermarket.... the wires for 12v and antenna are coming from under the felt at the front of the console.

Sorry, but I'm not sure of your question.... could you be a little more specific please?

Apparently for some reason it didn't post all of my question...In short.. the problem is that the radio stays on, and the dash 12V, when the car is OFF, if I unplug the skyfi.. if the skyfi is plugged in... it works fine...But at least for now, I don't have or want XM, so I would like to take the skyfi out... but I dont want my radio staying on.

There is a 12V wire coming up from under the felt at the front of the console, as well as the antenna wire... I haven't traced to see where or how they are spliced. Just bought the vibe Friday.

that's a weird one. Hard to know how they might have wired it in. Did they replace the head unit, or does it have a typical vibe head unit? Odd that they sold the vibe with only 4700 miles on it, wonder what that story was.looks like the first part of you question was the title "XM Skyfi install... if unplugged leaves Radio, Dash 12V ON!... help"

I asked the same thing... the guys at the Honda place said the previous owner has a "history" of trading in cars... Said he traded for a Honda Element... said he needed something to take his kayaks... I went into the honda place looking for a new car (or lightly used) after my 96 stratus had some severe rack and pinion problems... I test drove the civics and didn't really care for them, I only thought i wanted one b/c of their reputation as solid built cars... Then i spotted this pretty blue Vibe with low miles and remainder of warranty, so I said lets test drive that... when i found out that it was within my budget the rest was history.oh yea, the HU is base single CD 2005 vibe, with "BAND" button.

I'm totally guessing, but it might be that it's wired so the skyfi can play tunes even when the car is off. (and turn on the radio when the skyfi is on) I would suspect the connector has more than just 12v and gnd, and there is a signal from the skyfi to turn on power to the radio. Probably defaults to "on" when there's no skyfi. It might be you could find that by tying this signal to 12v or gnd, normal operation would be restored. But mroe likely, it's either on or off and controlled by the skyfi which makes it much more difficult.Unfortunately, this is a custom job and I have no clue what they really did. There are some members of the board with custom audio installation experience, but most likely they could only point you in a general direction.Your best bet might be to find out who did the skyfi install and go ask them about it. If the dealer's a nice guy, he might help you contact the original owner.

Aside from the gas mileage that Kia was MORE reliable than my Dodge V10 and cummins diesel, Dodge Caravan, Honda Accord...Hell the first day I had the Vibe it had the faint door ajar light trouble...If that is the way things are going to go, I will get rid of the Vibe too...Dodge was cheap about carrying options over to the next model year too...So, tell me why that was a no-brainer?
