The '05 armrest rocks!

Post by ColonelPanic »

Few folks have had much positive to say about the '05 armrest, but seeing how I generally go against the grain for practically everything I guess I'm the one to start. At the Ohio meet, I swapped with Toasted7 - he was used to the higher up '03 style and missed that on his new '05, and once I got past the lack of storage on the '05 style, I suspected that the lower armrest would probably benefit me. I'm not very tall to begin with, so the '03 armrest was a bit too tall for me... It got worse once I mounted the Sirius tuner in front of the cup holders. Not having the longest arms and having the tuner down so low, it got kinda uncomfortable when flipping through the channels. Of course that can be remedied by bringing my remote, which I never can seem to remember. There isn't that far of a drop now from the armrest to the Sirius tuner so it's far easier to work now. The lack of storage, blah. If I have too many places to put stuff, I lose it. So I actually welcome the lack of the storage compartment. The swap worked out great! The '05 armrest was too short for Toasted, but my '03 style was too tall for me - so we both won here, finally having a more comfortable place for that right arm. So thanks, Joel!

Anyone else in ColonelPanic's situation - I'll be glad to swap my '05 arm rest with an 03/04. I'll pay for shipping on mine, and it's in mint condition.

No problem at all... I'm glad it worked out as well as it did. Was an easy swap (not much to it at all). The drive home from the meet was great with the taller armrest. I don't think it could have worked out any better (unless of course, the armrests were full of $$$). Thanks again CP!!!

I see, so it is a regular armrest minus the mini storage compartment up top. I like my mini storage, that is where I put my pen and sunglasses.

BTW, if anyone else is desperate for an 05 armrest, I can get my hands on a couple for cheap.

the hinge on my little "top" compartment in my 03 armrest is giving out. It wobbles and wont close when I let it go I have to guide it in the right way. Haven't disected it yet to try and tighten anything but it's weird that it's loosening up.

That sounds about like my first armrest, Merzbow. The hinges aren't particularly sturdy. Check the screws and see if they're loose, otherwise check the hinges themselves and see if the plastic is cracked. A year ago, the original armrest on my car had to be replaced due to the latch breaking *and* the hinges for the top compartment cracked as well.I'm so happy to have less crap to worry about breaking. lol

I was going to start my own post "The '05 armrest sucks!" but I will just leave that one be.

Certainly was. I was within a couple thousand of expiring as well, so you should be ok, I would think.
