5spd and playing with the radio

Post by hjwii »

Okay.. I have a 5spd... and I have a radio... and when I'm in 3rd or 5th gear, it's the perfect resting spot for my hand while I play with the radio. Is this putting undue strain on the stick and the clutch and all? I try to refrain from resting it there, but sometimes I just forget... Thanks,,,hjwii :^)

If it breaks from your hand resting on it then it's a POS and deserves to be broke.

Yeah it should be fine! You are actually resting on the shifter itself and not the clutch. I do the same on my 6-speed with no issues.

Yeah, I do the same thing with my 6 speed. What you don't want to do is rest your foot on the clutch pedal.

I've been resting my hand on the shifter ever since I learned how to drive.

Agreed. It's fine. The shifter actually connects to the gearbox via cable, so all you're doing is putting weight on the structure holding the shifter in place.. Which..yes..will support it.
