Vibe GT owners - Who's had their clutch replaced?

Post by Jahntassa »

I'm currently seeing if I can fight GM to get my GT clutch replaced, as it no longer holds going uphill in 5th or 6th gear, and slips on all the others. I have just under 27k on mine.I need to know who has had their clutch replaced by GM under warranty or with any sort of assistance to cost. I want to make sure I have some sort of case when they say they "don't do that", and I know i've read that some of you have had it done.Thank you!

Are you stopped on a hill and you are trying to hold the car in place by balancing the clutch and gas? Or are you moving and you try to shift into 5th, but it won't engage?

No, more like while at speed (65-75 mph), it will not STAY at speed in 5th or 6th gear. The clutch will not hold the engine to the tranny, and will simply over-rev while the car slows down.I have to shift down to 4th gear in order for the transmission to catch to the engine and pull the car up the incline, no matter how slight it is. If you are driving, and the tach increases but your speed does not while the car is in gear, with the clutch not engaged, the car should respond, either by slugging down, or accelerating. Mine does not do this. If I accelerate too much, the tach will raise but it I will not accelerate. Also, I can smell the clutch burning. I know there are people who got their clutches replaced, I just have to wonder where they are..

My Vibe GT has 30,000 miles on it and the clutch just started to go. Of course I received the same response regarding coverage (that its NOT) ... Plus they want me to agree to pay $750 to have them confirm that its not covered (the entire job would cost me over $1400) --- I am currently battling with GM as I don't think that is right since clearly its a problem with their product, rather than my driving - given the fact that so many people have noted this problem. I have a Toytoa with over 100,000 miles and I JUST relpaced the clutch last year.I suggest that as many people as possible contact GMAC. The number is 800-762-2737.
