Install Power lock/ Keylessremote

Post by yxj002 »

HI, My car is 2004 vibe base, automatic. I'd like to get information on keyless remote as well as power door installation.I say on eBay , a complete keyless costs ~$45. How much wire-cutting/rewiring I will need? I am pretty car-idiot, and don't want to mess up the car much. Also They have keyless+power lock for $80 dollars. Is this any good? Again, how much wire-cutting/re-wiring do I need? Thanks for the the advice.

I know retrofitting powerlocks on a currently manual lock vehicle is a bit of a chore.

i have done it on my vibe and will tell you the best way to do it as these cars have cable style door locks and you can't attach to the cable. if you are serious about doing it i can take my door panels off and snap some pics the kits you see on ebay will work but you will need an alarm to trip them remotely

Thanks for the replies. My car has automatic transmission but is manual versus power . It is a 2004 vibe base , 2WD.After reading more posts, It seems that "power door" requries a lot of work and skills. Now I only wanted to have remote/keyless installed (not power door ), since that should be easy?Any idea how hard that is? And I am looking at eBay for some possible kits. Any advice or warnings? Thanks a lot.

Power doors locks are necessary for the key less entry to be able lock/unlock the doors. As you are a self-described "not a car guy" I would strongly suggest getting a professional installation.

You gotta have power locks to have RKE. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If a seller on ebay told you that RKE could be installed without power locks present, that seller is either an idiot, or someone so desperate to make a sale they'd lie to you. I suspect it could have been just a simple communicatione error, however. And as GMJAP also explained, seeing how you self-admittely know little about cars, this is a project best left to the pros.

don't listen to the ebayers i am telling you if you can wire and are mechanicaly inclined you can do it it takes a while and don't listen to any one who tells you they can attach to the cable it will break it and $$$$ to replace the kits they have will work but you will need a few things from the junk yard.the kit comes with 4 actuators and a central locking modual you will need a car alarm with lock outputs and remotes this will trigger the locks buy an extra actuator to do the hatch as well.i bought the kit in canada for $39.00 cad the extra actuator is about $15 junk yard parts free- 10.00 depending on yardpm me if you need pics and instructions
