Ok so when i was installing my A/C insulation mod, i noticed a tube on the driver side in front of the battery that lead to the air box. Couldnt this be routed to a ram air hood or the front grill for "ram air" like the gran prix etc. course a screen would want to be installed just in case or a sponge thing to stop water. just a thought.
there would likely be no inherent benefits from ram air at that point. you *might* see some iprovement if you routed ram air to the top of the airbox, where the stock intake goes in...other than that, though, i can't see it doing anything.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Are there any benefits besides audible improvements?(The 5.0L mustangs in the late 80's - early 90's had a "muffler" on the airbox to quiet the intake down... some people dyno'ed them at a 1-3HP draw. Yeah, I ripped mine out when I learned about that horsecrap, too)
It's routed to where it is for just that reason. In front of the radiator so that whenever you're moving, you'll get fresh cold air. It doesn't stick forward in the grill opening to protect the intake from water and debris. Ram air doesn't do a thing since the intake sucking air at a much faster rate than the air speed relative to movement.
Vibe GT, TRD springs, Progress bar, STB, Unichip, Borbet E 16x7.5, 225/50 Bridgestone RE750, beefed up grounds and battery bypass capacitors(had em laying around)
well isnt it aimed at the head light, either way i was just wondering because pontiac usually has cool ram air hoods...ours should come stock with them! like i said if you re routed it to the front or anywhere else you'd need to put that sponge thing in so water doesnt get in..but like you said it wouldnt be doing much because its already toward the front. eh just a idea
Or you could remove the headlight and turn that tube right out the opening! actually its really only there for air flow. I forgot to install it when I took out my CAI... it didn't sound much different to me... but thats me and my ears.

I'd have to put an "Type R" sticker on my doors then.I haven't had a chance to get a good look at it, but it makes sence if it's out in front of the radiator... yanking that would be counter productive. The 5.0L's silencer was in the wheel well - through the fender... so yanking that just left a nice big hole to suck air through without restriction.
