I don't know about anyone else, but there has been a couple of instances where I threw the stick into reverse by accident at least 3 times in the three weeks I've owned my GT.Now I have no problem with the location of the reverse gear by first. After all I'm used to it as my Dodge Shadow ES had it there too. On my Shadow, there is a ring just under the knob that I would have to lift before shifting into reverse. However with my Vibe GT, there isn't a physical lock out to prevent accidentally shifting into reverse. All there is a beeping and a slight bump between first and reverse.I've driven a friend's Jetta and there was a button I had to press to unlock reverse.I know it's too late to change things on the current model, but I would suggest that GM look at making a change for future models.Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy overall with my new Vibe.

Alot of people have complained about the beeping in reverse but you have just proven why GM did that.A lock ring is one idea but I'm sure alot of people would complain about that too. I am one who would. When I drive a stick, I like to be able to go from first to reverse and vise versa quickly and smoothly with having to pause and pull a ring. The beeping wouldn't bother me but thats just my opinion.
I have never done that in mine. I have put it into first instead of reverse though.

There is always going to be a debate between the two. I don't like the Ring either. i drive the sunfires on the lot and I don't like that feature. I haven't had this problem with the GT's but I can see how that would happen.

I've landed my GT in reverse accidentally a few times -- it always happens at the worst time like someone is waiting impatiently behind you. The beeping has saved me from serious screwups. I've gotten better with practice, so hopefully it won't happen again. My theory is this happens mostly to big drivers with heavy arms -- the spring that keeps you out of reverse is not very stiff.
You all could try putting it in 2nd gear before you put it in 1st that way it's straight up to 1st gear. I don't have the 6 speed but it would seem logical too me?

Mine only took a couple of days to flatten out to the contours of the floorboard. When you revvved the engine like that was anyone around? If so did they ask you to race or were they Chicken?
