Woofer Voice Coil Question

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question. In a previous thread I mentioned that my Polk tweeter began buzzing a couple weeks ago. Today I took off my driver door panel and looked into the problem. I have the Polk EX3560 component set up front. It turns out the buzzing is coming from the woofer. What appears to be causing the problem is the voice coil is not moving freely on the pole. When I removed the woofer and lightly press on the cone, you can hear it rubbing on the pole, the same buzzing sound it creates when being played. I'm assuming there is nothing I can do since the speaker is all glued and sealed together. Anyone know what may have caused this to happen? One thing that came to mind is some of the screws mounting the speaker to the door were rusted. Is it possible that moisture has gotten inside the speaker and maybe corroded the voice coil or pole? If so, any recommendations to prevent it? I remember the window clearance was tight, so I don't know if a baffle will fit in place.Here is a picture showing the parts I'm talking about:Thanks for the help.

If it feels rough, that means the voice coil is blown.. it's actually touching the magnet and it's destroyed. Only thing you can do is get a new one...Don't feel too bad, I blew one of mine too!

I've actually SMOKED one of my subwoofers before! It was a nice one too! RIP 15" mtx .Another thing that could cause the sound is if it's not screwed down properly. If the cage is bowed a little, then it'll throw the whole alignment off causing it to buzz during excursion.

This may sound a bit far fetched but I swear it DID work for me. I had a 6.5" woofer that was scratching and buzzing slightly and I sat it on a sub-woofer;s magnet while I looked for a replacement, but I couldn't find one with the right mounting so I put the "blown" one back in. Never had a problem since. I might have just gotten lucky (ahhh, dumb luck) but I have heard other people doing the same and having similar results. I guess it would depend on how bad the coil is. If it is just slightly out of allignment, it might work.

I guess it got blown from distortion by the stock amplifier. The power range for the speakers is 10-100 watts RMS with a peak of 300 RMS. So, I know it wasn't over powered from the stock amp. The only thing I can think of is when I drive with all the windows down and crank it up to over come wind/road noise, maybe there was some distortion, but I don't recall ever hearing any. So, now I'm looking for a replacement. Mike (Raginfish) might sell some of his speakers, so that might be an option. This doesn't really cause any noticeable difference in sound quality does it? I wonder if it could be pulled back out with some tape. I know the caps are very flexible since I own the same one.

you'll know if the voice coil is blown if it keeps cutting out. if you press down on the center of the woofer and it starts thumping its the voice coil.

I noticed when playing music through the speaker, if I pressed to one side of the center cap, the buzzing would stop and it would play smoothly. If you don't touch it or pressed directly on the other side of the cap, it would scrape the core and distort.I'm looking to buy a replacement for that speaker.Yesterday I also installed my old Bazooka RS8A-HP subwoofer. I just tapped into the speaker outputs of the Moon & Tunes amp. Now my Vibe has plenty of bass. I just need to get back my midrange missing in my driver door.
