Life Changes

Post by Charlievibe »

Reading Kari's post about moving to Ohio and starting grad school reminded me that I have been meaning to let those who know me know what's going on.As many of you know (or at least I think you do), I graduate in May with my MS in Chemistry. I have to brag on myself some, I got my degree while working a full time job!! So anyhow, back to where I was heading. After going on several job interviews, I decided that the jobs that interested me most were PhD-level jobs. So, I am heading back to complete my PhD in Chemistry. I am going to have to continue working full time until I get my house sold and we will see what happens then.Anyhow, I just wanted to let my friends know what's going on and why you may not hear from me much these days. I will do my best to keep in touch, but you may have to hollar at me some as well!!!

("For all your assoline questions.")Congrats, too and good luck on the doctorate, esp getting a good advisor. Just curious - what kind of jobs are you interested in?

Wow, congrats on your MS (I didn't know) and my best with your PhD in Chemistry. During the mid 80's I was taking classes for analytical chemistry, but never got my degree. Lol, now I'm the Senior Spectroscopist at my work place without a degree. The coolest part of my job is, I get to work on this sophisticated equipment.

Charlie, that's what happened with Teena, she hit the job market, and found out her MS was just that, 2 letters. She went back to get her PhD, so she can at least teach on the college level when she gets done.

Let me try and address all of the questions/comments in one posting.Drunken, if you want to call me Dr. Charlievibe, I don't care. But to everyone here, I will always be Charlievibe. And yeah, I always thought it would be cool to marry a doctor (MD) as well!!! I seem to attract lawyers though, not doctors. Go figure!!! Rasermon, sounds like you are in a good place and have a great job. Where I work, as the people without four year degrees are leaving, they are replacing them with bachelor's. With my master's degree, I am the highest degreed person in my division (not including management). What kind of spectroscopy do you do? I am the NMR Spectroscopist here.TNpartsguy...As for the teaching side of life, I wish Teena the very best of luck. College profs are horribly underpaid and under-appreciated. As an example, my prof over at school makes a little less than I do and I only have a master's degree. As for the jobs I am interested in, I want to be a research scientist in charge of a lab (I will be looking for good scientists in a few years!!!). At this time, I am in-charge of our NMR lab, but I want more. The job I do concentrates on one area, I want to expand and get into other areas of Chemistry. Thank you all for the kind words and support. This was a tough and scary decision to make. It has been a long road getting to where I am but I have to say it is worth it.
