Living with 19's?

Post by NY Pete »

I had 18's on my bimmer and they were easy enough to live with, save for the one pothole I hit this past May that blew out one of my tires... anybody with 19's care to comment on ride/paranoia of potholes? (I already know they seriously turn heads - that's why I'm giving them consideration!) Pete

19's! I don't think you'll be able to get 19" snow tires. I say that because you live in a cold climate where 17" (or larger) non-snow tires are "completely useless, like driving on a skating ring, and you could kill yourself or someone else." How did you get by all these years with 18" wheels?

I keep my stockers (in this case, 16" Conti's on steel wheels) for the winter. I roll my big wheels with summer rubber from April to October...

The looks are awesome too and I do like the way the rubber handles the asphalt. I'm more worried about parking than the potholes I've got a few dings here and there

I'm too scared to deal with 19's....my boyfriends Grand AM went through 2 bent rims and he has 18's....If anything I'm gonna do 18's and a nice drop...19's are just too damn iffy for me. But I'm sure they look badazz...although I wouldn't wanna have to buy a new one to replace a bent one....over and over again...lol

I sold my 19's and I'm going to get nice lightweight 18's with wider tires.

Andrew,Can you share what of tire size you plan on using with the 18's. ?OPEN QUESTION:I currently have the scorchers with the half and half tread, will I be able to put on a tire that has more of a meatier type tread , something like a truck tire or something. But with a small side wall.I am helpless when it comes to tires and there sizes.Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

Andrew,I am also looking for some lightweight 18" rims with 225 rubber. What brand/models are you considering?I got one quote on Enkei RS5 wheels (20lb) with Parada 225-40's for $1240 delivered from tires.com. I am reluctant to go with a dual fitment rim though. There are plenty of lighter wheels too. What's your thinking?Burt
