I own you all!

Post by ColonelPanic »

Heh, check this out....Now, what do you think about that? Damn, must be the reflective flames on the doors behind the vibe emblems. Fast as hell! I owned everything on the road that day yo! Colonel Pizzle's Vizzle be the shizzle! Seriously though, I don't know how the hell this thing came up with 132 MPH as a maximum speed... My base/auto won't do over 90 on a good day before it runs out of steam. And with the screwed up steering, I'll be damned if I'm interested in trying to take it that much above the speed limit. Only other car I've been in with the GPS on was a Kia Rio. Ain't happening there either. Hey geeks, what kind of fluke do you think happened to make this thing think it's been at 132 MPH? Probably the trip through the washer didn't help it much, but even after the fact it's been as accurate as it always has...

As the satellites drift in and out of sight or you encounter some multipath interference your unit will compute a slightly different solution based on the available satellites and this difference can result in an instantaneous change in position. This change can confuse the max speed indicator into thinking you traveled rapidly to the new location. Luckily these are usually very easy to spot. Hopefully Garmin will figure out a way to filter out these kinds of changes in a future release.

I haven't hit the limit yet with my base manual but I'm trying to remember what 132MPH is in Kilometres cause my car is Canadian.

I think it (132 mph) equates to about 213 kilometers per hour.

Well I know my Vibe speedo ends at 180KPH so how the heck did you get over 200KPH (130+MPH) in your base Vibe?

Seriously, the driver wouldn't to go that fast either. I like to stay in the right lane and let evreyone pass me.....rasermon, thanks for the explanation of the GPS oddity... That makes perfect sense.

Not sure about the '05. The non-electronically goverened GT's have been found to be drag limited at 129 MPH during a road test review for a magazine (I forget which one) on a racetrack (i.e.--ideal conditions). We've been through big arguments over this before, but the speedo can indicate speeds higher than that because the speedometers tend to be inaccurate by a few percent. A few percent at 100+ MPH can mean several MPH difference from actual speed.

Oh yes, I think it is time for a new GPS. This one keeps losing signal then comes right back with some unheard of speed or elevation.Tonight it told me I was 1,000 ft. below sea level, another time it was 9,000 ft. above. And check out this max speed!Yes, the washer incident probably didn't help.Any suggestions for a good GPS to replace the ol' Geko 101, preferably under $200?

I was gonna post a picture of my eMap reading 636MPH(from being on a Boeing 737), but you blew that out of the water with your 1300+MPH . Check ebay for a Garmin eMap. You can usually find them new or slightly used under 200 bucks now. I have been using mine for about two years now with no trouble at all, it has even taken a dunking into a nasty mudhole while being mounted on my ATV. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-eMa...wItemh ... ...wItemOr, the eTrex is also a great unit and utilizes WAAS(more accurate). It's going for 229 at (removed)'s and has a $30 mail in rebate.http://www.dickssportinggoods....75821

I bought an Garmin Legend about a year ago and it seems to be a pretty nice unit. I paid like $150 on sale at Staples, but since then I've seen the Legend in a combo pack with additional maps or topo software for around $170 or $180. Wish I would have waited for one of the combo packs, but oh well. I've been happy with mine. It has a built in basic street map in the unit.
