We say “fairly close†because we’ve seen the super-secret spy photos upon which it is based, and the actual shots show a sleeker, wider, lower and, frankly, far more appealing car. That’s the good news. The bad news is General Motors’ Aussie division Holden reportedly may not start cranking out these future Goats until 2008, a full two years after production ceases on the 2006 Holden Monaro-based GTO.One more tidbit: It’s not shown here, but we hear GM is considering doing this GTO as a four-door coupe, using rear-hinged rear-access doors without visible handles.Source: http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102907

Don't like the post going down the center of the grill and the body looks like the new mustang.Hopefully the author of the column is right about the spy photos not looking like the car shown.

They attempted to do what ford did with the mustang. recapture some gto heritage, while still maintaining modern design features.looks like they failed miserably.

That's what I'm talkin about. There are a lot of good things to recapture from the old GTO, unfortunately, they don't look good on modern styling. They need to flat out redesign the car if they want to do it correctly, screw trying to go retro, it won't work on this car. And for the love of god, don't make it another GM clone.

They would have had it if it weren't been that damn snout! While it tries to recapture the Goat of old, I think it makes the poor thing look more like one of those Mitsubishi Galants. Jeffgtx, I kinda dig that concept.

I think the current GTO looks much better than those GTO concepts! Those things are UGLY! It really does look like they learned some ugly styling cues from Mitsubishi. The hood looks like the current Galant and the grill/lights also reminds me of the previous generation Galant. YUCK! The rest of the car looks similar to the new Mustang.Previous Galant, see the grill/front:

I disagree about the comparison to the Galant...aside from the split grille, I see a completely different front end..
DO NOT like the front end. The rest of the body still looks like the Monaro. In my opinion Pontiac needs to try again. That '99 concept looks pretty sweet. Wouldn't mind having that in my garage.

Giving it a second look, it's not HORRIBLE.But the upper "retro" part of the fascia doesn't match the lower "modern" part of it. It looks like they kept the lower part of the current GTO fascia, removed the grilles and headlamps, and welded in a replacement upper. With a little tweaking, I actually could come to like this car. *gasp!*

Honestly I like the current GTO WWWWAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than the '08. Doesn't look like they did anything except mess with the front end which just doesn't look right. Not quite sure why, but it doesn't. It just looks cheesy to me. JMHO
Sorry to break any hearts but the GTO will be disscontinued in 07 no more! this hurts me aswell being my first car was a 1970 Goat i miss that car damn but they missed the boat on this car with projected sales way behind it is not even comming close to the marks of the mustang and this kills me trust me because i hate fords the mustang is nice in that it hit the homerun in stylin , unlike the grand am looka like with a vette motor last year Holden only issued i beleive 18,000 units a year as of july last year they had not quite 6,000 units sold nation wide "not good" so this year wasnt much differnt even with all this employee discounts going on there still on the lots its a shame hopefully GM will hit a home run with this new HHR
http://www.tintdude.com/forum/....html check this sight out guess were not the only one thats agrees it sucks and read about half way it shows that holden is discontinuing the body style bye bye GTO
The GTO is not *dead*. Last I heard, it was to be absent from 07 and brought back in 08 as a total redesign. There are also strong rumors to a rebirth of "The Judge."Trust me my friends, the Goat is here to stay for now...

Holden will probably discontinue the Monaro so Pontiac has to redesign the car. It will be back, hopefully not with that front end though.
