Silverstar bright whites... remember these?

Post by Mavrik »

Well in the midst of all the complaints of "mine don't last more then 6 months!" by various Vibe owners, Silverstar eventually slipped into obscurity. In fact I had even forgotten I had a set on my car installed back in january of 2004. Well this past saturday July 30... my right headlight burned out. Guess I got lucky with my set as they lasted about a year and a half unlike the 6 months most got from theirs. I'm pretty impressed but did not buy another set... instead trying something else... cause it was cheaper

Um... no clue... the wife said they worked on hers and lasted a while... I never heard of them before. But they were worth half the price.

Sylvania Cool Blues maybe? That's what I had in my '79 Malibu but I didn't have it long enough to see how long they lasted...they were a lot cheaper though.

The cool blues I believe are just regular ultra bright halogens with a blue film wrapped around the lens. They probably have about the same life expectancy as a regular set of halogens. My silverstars lasted more than 6 months, mine lasted a little over a year. Actually almost 12,000 miles right on the button. So if you drive more than other people they will probably seem like they burn out sooner, cause I believe they call 12,000 miles the average mileage on a car for a year.

I think the Cool Blues are supposed to be brighter than halogens...that's why I bought them. I didn't like what was on it and I wanted bright headlights, so I bought those. From what I have seen of the cool blues they didn't really seem any brighter to me. I think that the color that the bulbs throw out makes a difference, but as far as distance the light travels I didn't see a significant improvement in my friends car. I had some kick (removed) lights in my Malibu. They were AC Delco Ultra Halogens or something like that. People would flash me when I had the dims on, and yes they were properly aligned. They were almost as bright as the silverstars and they lasted me four years.

I'd say Eurolite, I've had mine for about nine months now and had no problems whatsoever and hey they passed inspection in VA

they are xenon brights or something. not quite AS bright as the silverstars but close enough. I installed them on my Vibe last summer when i got sick of paying $45/pair for the crappy (removed) silver stars that burnt out in 6-9 mos. i had the xenons on for over a year I believe w/o burn out. they will be the same bulbs I'll install in my LGT this fall (once I figure out what bulbs for the highs, lows, and fogs). only downside with projector beams is that means you have to replace more bulbs = more $$$.

Well the other one I heard was a good buy, good output, and long lasting was the Sylvania xtravision -- the ones in the pink & black packages. That's probably what I'll be buying when the stock ones fail.

I've been tinkering with the idea of changing my fogs to blue... I don't know. Thinking more of appearance then function perhaps.
