Windshield molding

Hmm, thought I would throw something your way that I just discovered when waxing the car last evening...The rubber molding that goes all the way across the bottom of the windshield is really looking odd... In some places, it looks like there are chunks of it missing... In other places, it seems to have become deformed and sticks up in places.Here is a closeup:And if you look to the left of the red line, that's the damage I'm talking about that goes all the way from one side of the windshield to the other.The pics are kinda crappy, I'll try to get some better ones...Not sure of the origin of the damage... I suspected the wipers were not adjusted properly and had come in contact with the molding repeatedly, but that really doesn't seem to be the case. Weird! Should I really even bother with this? My only concern would be potential water leaks from where the seal is all discombobulated... Or is that piece just there for looks? If so, screw it.

I can't remember and can't tell from the pics, but I think the rubber strip you indicated is part of a plastic cover to keep debris out, but it is probably not intended to be a water seal. I took off the passenger side cover to check for debris in the cabin air intake, and I am pretty sure that visible weatherstrip is attached to the cover. Take the cover off and see if the rubber strip comes with it. the plastic part you are talking about is called a cowl. it is more an appearance part that covers the plenumn (the metal under it on the firewall) and a cover for the air conditioning fresh air vent. it is not to stop water but to divert it to the sides.it might be your wipers that are hitting it. I would have to see the wipers in action to tell for sure. as for the glass it has a bead of eurathane all the way around it that you can't see, again as for the rubber edge thats wavy thats just GM or Toyota crap trim thats weathering.so in your words "skrew it"

Nope... I don't really spray that area too hard, as no car wash I've found yet has worked as well on the windows as some invisible glass and paper towels.
