I have seen discussion on "the best" and most say a Valentine One. Just wondered if anyone here has one or feels another is better.I just bought a Valentine and it is in the mail. My Escort broke with a little help after being over ten years old.FYI, if anyone wants a V1, V1 offers a 30 money back trial. The 30 day trial units are checked over once they come back, new accessories are included full warranty still too and then sold for $365 out the door. That is how I bought mine instead of paying the $399 + SH. Sometimes there is a waiting list for a 30 day unit and I had to wait only a few days but with this cold how fast can I go now anyway...Did not matter to me since the full warranty is still on the unit and I saved a few bucks since I wanted to buy something else. Looked on eBay and they are going for $300 to $375, so I guess my price was not bad and it is at the latest version too.
Last detector I had was one from Radio Shack. It was one of the more expensive ones, with the compass and all that crap. One summer day, I forgot to take it off the windshield and the 100+ degree temps insde the car fried it. After that point every time I plugged it in, it blew the fuse in the power supply. It was out of warranty, so I just forgot about it.But if I were to buy another, I'd go with the V1 for sure. Looks like they're worth the money. I've had umpteen detectors over the years, and if I would have just shelled out the extra $$$ on a V1 a long time ago, who knows - it may be in the Vibe and working fine to this day. But it's a moot point for me now, I drive sloooow as hell anymore.

Funny, well not so funny since the sun fried your detector! I had one once that every time I opened my garage door, the thing went off! Questioning the validity of it and since it was given to me, I pitched it.After 6 points on my license years ago now all gone, I drive slower now myself. My new detector will just be for the times I want to have some fun for a few minutes. I do not abuse them and drive 10 MPH over or more because at those speeds it will be hard to slow down in time to not get caught.
That is the only problem with radar detectors, a lot of them are way too sensitive. Unless you buy the incredibly expensive ones they will all do that. I had one about 8 or 10 years ago, it saved me a few times. If you are alone on a stretch of highway with nobody in front of you, it won't matter if you have one or not. The police are usually in standby mode until they are on top of you, then they flip the switch. No time to slow down or anything. The only time it helps is in a pack of cars like on the interstate, you will be able to detect them detecting other cars ahead of you. But if they have an airplane patrolling above, you are screwed no matter what, they don't need a radar. A better way for avoiding a ticket is a jammer. Unfortunately those are illegal in a lot of states. So you might as well just drive somewhere in the vicinity of the speed limit. You won't lose that much time, and you might actually save some when you don't get pulled over and sit on the side of the road for 15 minutes.
I am actually looking to buy one now, im kinda stuck on either the escort 8500 x50 or a V1 but the V1 is a 100 more and new reviews say the 8500 x50 is a better bang for the buck. heres a reviewhttp://www.radartest.com/artic...=9090here is another testhttp://www.speedzones.com/also on V1's web site they have reviews from customers, well thats just the plain 8500 not the x50. my friend has the x50 and he hasnt gotten a ticket since. Everytime its beeped there was a cop up the road so im just looking to see how ppl feel after using them, then ill pick which one. toolguy hows ur V1?
My V1 is great and has saved me several times, radar coming from behind. I use it in my daily driver and than move it to other vehicles when needed. I did get a 30 day trial unit which saved me $50, you have to call and ask for these units. It comes with all new cords same full warranty and is tested before being sold. Have not had an issue with it...Lots of Vette guys on two other sites I belong to have them, that is why I got a V1. The x50 sounds good though. I had an Escort and loved it, before the V1. A short in the power cord port soldered to the board started to give me trouble. I took it apart three times and the third time I killed it. I guess my soldering iron got the board too hot, it was pushing 10 years old though. After 6 points on my license years ago I do not abuse the speed limits anymore. Just got one for when I want to have fun! What ever you buy make sure it is invisible to the states that have radar devices to find the people that have detectors! My V1 is in visible to that technology, built into it. I forget which 2 states have it, could be more now.
i had a cobra radar dectector that found every automatic sliding door in town. It also liked to go off everytime I passed a Pizza Hut.I have not used one in a long time... just dont see the need anymore...

I had a valentine 1 and it saved me many times. it wasn't until I got "spotlighted" that i stopped using the V1 because there isn't a radar in the world that can save you from that and so i just kinda decided then that i would slow down and go only about 7-10 miles an hour over

spotlighted being the light shined on ur car or the gun thingy so cops know that u use a radar detector. I mainly want it because i drive from the duluth to the cities a lot and its nice to cruze sorta fast so its not such a long trip.
spot lighting meaning he turned on the radar detector just long enough to get my speed and then turned it back offit was very nice for my bi-annual trip from NC to MO about 1200 miles each way.
