Rear wiper - spray or dribble?

Hey guys!I've been lurking here for a while, but I figured I'd go ahead and register so I can post messages too. I've got a Shadow two-tone Vibe with the Power and M&T packages. Just crossed the 500 mile mark yesterday, and I just got the car about 2 weeks ago Anyways, a quick question.. My rear wiper sprayer kinda dribbles out wiper fluid instead of spraying it like the front wiper. Is this normal? Also, is there a separate tank for the rear wiper fluid, or does it pump it out of the main tank in under the hood?Oh, here's a link to a picture of my car, taken the day after I got it: http://www.cgcoffee.org/images/mycar.jpg Thanks!Rob

Welcome! Congratulations on your new Vibe. Yes it is normal for the rear washer to stream out, not spray. I haven't checked to see where the resevior is for the back, but I am sure that it is under where the lift gate opens up. I'm almost sure that it does not come from the front tank. It would be strange to run a hose the entire length of the car to the back.

Yes, the rear sprayer does that normally. I complained at first but the past few days I've been using it alot because of the snow and it actually works fine. It clears the window for me.There is 1 tank for washer fluid (in the engine compartment) that feeds both the windshield sprayers and the hatch sprayer.

1 tank?! That seems like a strange, but practical design. All you have to do is refill the one tank. I wonder where they run the line at in the car? Anyways, I know now. Thanks NovaResource and Sub-Vibe-R for the information. That old saying still holds true, "You learn something new everyday."

I have a GMC Safari minivan with a rear window wiper/washer, and that car has only one fluid reservoir also. I agree that the dribbling rear "sprayer" is lousy. I took mine into the dealer, and they adjusted what passes for a nozzle so that it at least hit the window instead of piddling down on the road behind the car. They said that all Vibes dribble, not stream in the back. (Sounds like a personal problem to me.) - Earl

Welcome. I do agree that there really should be a spray for the rear wiper, but unfortunately I am not a Vibe engineer. They do listen in here so maybe we can have them change it for future Vibers.

The design of the rear washer on the VIBE is a better design that the way rear washer nozzles used to be set up. The VIBE rear washer nozzle is above the window and the liquid is sprayed down onto the window. The old way of putting the nozzle below the window and spraying up, did not work well at all. The upward sraying nozzles had a chronic problem with poor aim and would often spray too low or too high on the glass, sometimes even spraying over the top of the vehicle, making it useless. The downward spray is ideal by comparison. It uses gravity to move the fluid, instead if fighting against it. The rear sprayer on the VIBE is not absolutely perfect, but it could be a lot worse. I think sometimes we lose sight of the fact that the VIBE is a value priced vehicle, not a luxury type vehicle that they can spend lots of money on to make everything perfect. For the price, I think the rear wiper works well.

My 91 Eclipse GSX had two tanks. Twice as many to check at maintenance time. I remember the spray would miss the window if you weren't moving, but if you were at highway speed it didn't work either.

I found an odd looking clear hose when I was installing my XM Radio and realized later what is was.
