i've found some 18" wheels wrapped in 225/40/18's they are 7.5 " anyone with this application and if so what would be the perfect lowering springs? looking for the best for the money...
Err... the OD of a 225/40 x 18 is between the diameters of the stock 205/55 x 16" and 215/50 x 17". There is plenty of fender well clearance inside and out, so this size should not impact what drop is possible.
Actually my 225/18/40 tires with my Tein S-Techs is still a smooth ride. It's only rough if you have to drive on roads in bad condition. These springs were the best price when I shopped around. I think I got them from http://www.adventon.com for around $130. Most other springs were around $180 and up.
Justin 2003 Vibe GT - Mille Miglia Evo5 18x8 Wheels (now stock)- Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust (now stock)- Tein S-Tech Springs (now stock)- Injen CAI - Red Painted Calipers - Hella Supertone Horns - Polk Speakers - Bazooka RS8A-HP Sub - Kenwood Headunit - Still love my Vibe, but I've just turned it back into a basic daily driver.
I didn't do a before and after measure, but what Mavrik posted from my cardomain site is what I think Tein says the drop should be and I think other people have measured and found it to be about right. It may sound low, but I still clear most parking blocks and curbs. A week or so ago, I pulled into a parking spot too far. When I looked at the front bumber, it was only about 1/4" from the concrete. It was very close, but usually it clears quite a bit more. I have never once scraped my bumper, even on some steep angle entrances that I thought I would have. Twice I have heard something scrape, but it turned out to only be the plastic air dams underneath.

Quote, originally posted by Mavrik »Was thinking more for the ride... 2 inch stiff drop on 18" wheels with rubber bands for tires lol... thats gonna be rough.eh? 18's aren't bad at all...you'd have to go 19's, or probably 20's to be reduced to something like 225/25 or 30 rubber. 18's can safely take 40 or 45, give you fair-to-good ride quality, and not mess up your speedo.
thanks for the reply. i've got the sport package option. when the ex had the car she just about ripped the front end off. i wasn't in the car so i don't know what happened. so far i haven't scrubbed. but for me to drop two inches worries me. what's some advantages of lowering?
Since you have the GM body kit, you may not want to go with the S-techs. It would look good, but you may scrape more often. The Eibach Sportline springs I think are some that lower about 1.5", handle well, and aren't too stiff. I know Eibach has two out for the Vibe/Matrix, forgot which is which, but one is a little lower, the other doesn't lower much but offers better handling than stock. The main benefits of lowering are better appearance because of less wheel gap and better handling.

Sounds great. You'll have an awesome ride! Have you decided on which wheels?
