I acquired the HVAC inlays from grafzwerx, need help

Post by canadianviber »

Hi i acquired the brushed aluminum hvac inlays and i dont know if it the color i chose but the inlays are very brittle like. They dont curve around the edges properly and where the come over the indentation in the top of the hvac it looks like crapola. Wondering if its the color i chose that made the install a pain or did any fellow vibers have problems with there hvac inlays, and if soo did u figure a nice way too install them..

Is this what you are talking about? It takes some patience but it is possible. What problems are you having?

Installation of the vent overlays is very, very tedious to say the least! Tip #1: Get a bottle of water and add a drop or two of dishwashing detergent to spray on the vent for easier alignment.Tip #2: Even though it's blazing hot outside, a hair dryer will be needed to make the vinyl conform to the vent. Particularly the largest piece of the vent with the indentation.Honestly, it took me three tries all together by the time I started to get this halfway right. I still had issues with one vent, the vinyl didn't stick down to the indentation for some reason. Aside from that, it turned out pretty good. I bought two sets to do mine - silver on the majority of the vent, and I have bright blue reflective for the one bottom half of the vent. No issues with either color in terms of being too brittle...Ryan is a great guy to do business with, so run your issues by him and see what can be done. Good luck to you! Here's a few pics: http://photobucket.com/albums/...ents/More to follow sometime soon, I have yet to take a pic of the right two vents.

You may try a different color, now that I think of it.... I did initially buy the chrome overlays and the material they were made of felt different than the stuff the silver and blue ones I have now are made of.I crashed and burned on my chrome vent overlay project, it just wasn't meant to be. But that was my fault, not so much the material. But it does seem that the silver and blue material was easier to deal with. Could have been a difference in the material, or just that my skills got better and I had everything handy I needed to do the install .lol

Hi everyone, this is my first post but I have been lurking around this forum for a year My question goes to Colonel Panic..... I see that your HVAC overlays have the gray shade and the blue. I was thinking of ordering the gray ones at gwerks. I just want to ask if the grey shade you chose matches exactly the original panels in the Vibe? If so, do you remember what the colour is called?Oh, incase anyone's wondering what I drive, it's an 03 AWD, with the same colour as ArcVibes. FishFeet

I know I'm not the Colonel but I'm pretty sure they're just metallic silver. Not sure if they're an exact match for the silver trim in the car, but they look close to me. It looks really good, too.

Welcome aboard! Kari's right, the vent overlays are the standard metallic silver color available from Grafxwerks. The blue is the reflective bright blue. I bought a set of each color to create the 2-tone effect. lol!The silver comes very close to matching the Vibe's trim. Not an exact match, but pretty darn close.

Thanks for the reply and warm welcome guys The reason why I choose them is because I thought on the front-passenger side, the black vents on black dash looks really dull. Anybody else have a good colour suggestion? I think i'm gonna go ahead with the metallic silver. Yes ArcVibe, the blue is a great car colour but it gets dirty so easily! Makes me really mad whenever it rains on my clean car

I had trouble with mine as well. They looked good far a few days, but when they fully dried they popped out of the indent. Oh well, my vents are usually cracked open most of the time anyway so you don't really notice unless you look closely.

I honestly think its the color i chose. Its not silver its the " brushed aluminum" feels like a mix of aluminum foil and the type of film they use to make bags of chips. ( lol ). BUt fellow vibers i figured out something that i like. I jsut installed every piece but the top one that has the indent and too tell ya the truth, it looks good. Il try to get a pic too show you what it looks like. Im at work at the moment soo when i get home il try and post it.
