CAI, engine light & the RAIN

Post by Vibedad »

I installed my Cosmo Racing CAI about 6 weeks ago. I pulled the negative cable to reset the ECM, let her idle and have not had a problem at all in fact, - I love it.Today, I was driving on the highway in a heavy rainstorm (wiper full speed type) , when my check engine light came on. I again pulled the negative cable to reset the ECM, let her idle and the light is now off. Any ideas why it came on? I have no trouble resetting it, it is just a pain. Thanks P.S. - I am going on holidays tomorrow for a week (driving) so I will post if I have any further problems.

water might of got on a sensor or a part of the engine when you were driving in the rain. if this happens only in the rain then i would check all the cables are tight and properly seated. could also pop the hood at night and see if you have any sparks going (usually for spark plug wires thou).

the light may not have had anything to do with your short ram either...

yea..i meant to say to check all the cables etc. in the engine compartment cuz this doesnt sound like its cai problem, unless maybe some water got in and did something to a sensor?? if thats possible

Only real way to tell is next time it comes on have someone pull the code and look it up. Even if it comes on and goes off by itself, the code can be pulled. Once you disconnect the battery is it gone though.

Checker does that free dont they? and im sure a couple other places like that do, then just take the code and google it and post it here, and im sure you would be able to find the issue.

did you recently fuel up? if you don't tighten the cap enough, the CEL will also go off...

No - didn't just fuel up (hardly ever have to - right??)I live in Canada and I do not know of anyone that will read the codes for us up here - we don't have an Auto Zone or Pep Boys.Back in a week - off up north!

Canadian Tire will do it but they charge for it. I have my own OBD II code reader. It's one of the best purchases I ever made.
