Fuel Filter?

Post by average joe vibe »

I called my delaer about the issue I am having with the vibe seemingly taking in a lot air and not getting enough "umph" in 4th and 5th, and she suggested I check my fuel filter...where do I find it and how do I check it....just an average vibe owner.

You'll find it inside the fuel tank. There's no reason YOU should be having to check that, and from my understanding, most cars stop running before the fuel filter needs changing.Sounds like yet another catalytic converter issue...

Hmm, that sounds familiar. What year?I just got through a terrible ordeal with my car, and as Mike said, the catalytic converter probably was at fault... I'll know for sure here in a few days, but so far the new cat and pcm did help...

That girl tell you how to "check" your fuel filter? Any good advisor knows you can't check your fuel filter like you can an air filter. The Vibe's filter is located in the tank and is an internal filter, you can't see tell if its "dirty" Now if its plugged, you will not have any power in any gear. To have a problem with power only in higher gears would suggest something else... perhaps as stated, the converter. Which has a 130,000km warranty on it as well.

Right! No in line filter for the Vibe like Mavrik said it is in the tank and most of the time you cannot see through it. It is larger then an inline thus why it is in the tank and is supposed to last many, many more times longer then an in line. I did an 1986 Toyota truck once and it was white, you could see fuel in it but hardy tell if there was dirt. Lots of OE's moved to in the tank because ownres where not changing them anyway. I personaly like the in line and change mine every couple years on the cars I can. At any rate you cannot check it on your own.Run a bottle or two of Chevron Techron Fuel system cleaner in it. That stuff works and GM approved.

Why did you ask your dealer about stuff like this? You go to the service manager with issues with your car. Then if they give you guff - you post here and we send them hate- email and TSB's.
