re-install of my CAI question

Post by Mavrik »

Ok as some know I removed mine rather successfully with no probs like cel lights all on my own back in May. Those at the 04 Vibe meet in MI will remember the install. Anyway... my question is I seem to be missing the nut that holds the intake down to the rubber brace that comes up through the wheel well. You know the bolt you push through from inside the fender, put the rubber bushing on top and then spin the nut down onto? Those with an Injen intake will know this anyway as I don't know if others are different. Anyway, lost that nut so anyone happen to know the size I need? I'll have to go get another one and wonder if I can buy just one... probably not...Oh well if anyone can give me an idea of the size it will save me from buying lots of different sizes. I'm looking for thread pattern and size. The easy way would be to take the bolt into a hardware store and match that way. Well the rubber bushing is on there so well I could not get that out and left it there.*edit* it appears to me I may have posted this in the wrong place if a mod could move it before I get flamed?

maybe you can send an email to Injen or Cosmoracing and ask them. If they want to keep you as a costumer, they should answer you, and offer to send a new one for cheap...

Yeah, they are 10 bucks, I lost mine in the spring so I had to get one. You may want to get two, I hear they have problems with them coming lose on the 04's.

Well mine stayed tight... its just I lost the nut on the uninstall of the CAI. it went straight down and fell out the open wheel liner since I had already taken out the air filter. Problem is... I was doing this on the grass so I never found the nut... oh well... wonder what shipping is for that? Probably $50...

i didn't think you lost the vibramount but the bolt that comes IN the car that you reuse to tighten it down? can't you go to toyota and see if they have that nut?

Phil --Did you already reinstall the intake? If not, just bring the vibramount with you into a hardware store and test fit different size nuts..

agree with the fishman, the vibramount duesn't care where the nut came from like Ragingfish said bring the mount to a local hardware store/lowes/homedepot and match up the thtreads, you'll probably spend about $.15 on the whole deal.rob

Someone at the dlr or a good hardware should be able to measure the thread pitch on the part or stud you have using a Thread Pitch gauge for you... I have a set but that will not do you any good.

Mine didn't come with a vibramount. I made one from a piece of rubber tube and a bolt and nut I found in the house junk drawer.

I would have taken the mount out already but it would not come out when I uninstalled the CAI back in may. Otherwise I would carry in the bolt and size it for a nut. And not sure how Toyota will have an injen vibramount though.

tightened is NOT the issue. the bolt is pushed through the rubber bushing and thats where its stuck, it will not slide or twist out of that bushing. The nut got lost when I easily removed it... maybe to easily as I dropped it.

lol. perhaps then the man should have done the job right the first time so a woman didn't have to do it..... and have it work! you're on your own now buddy. but i'm sure you can install it without f/up your MAF this time. just remember the electronics basics 101: power off FIRST and power on LAST! amazing what will happen if you don't do that.... 7 CAI installs done and i've NEVER had a MAF blow on me....

lol. maybe yourself since you obviously f/up the first job! maybe if you installed it correctly then i'd have not had to do it for you at the meet.

couples... if you go to a Canadian Tires, they have the gauge to mesure tread, so why not just go there, ask the guy if he can come to you car with it, and so you'll have your nut! and Hope will be able to say Wow, you did it yourself!!

that's a good idea, but the problem is.... toto, we're not in canada anymore! lol. we dont' have canadian tire here. and from what he's telling me, the vibramount itself is messed up and sounds like it needs replacing, not just the nut? at least that's the jist of what i THINK he means.

well, reading back, it appears it's just the nut and not the vibramount. i can't ever tell what the problem is. just like phone line is somehow supposed to tell me it's the same as an ethernet cable! lol. but the vibramount, since i did install it originally, has 2 screws on each side if i remember correctly. the rubber "bushing" just helps w/ the vibration (thus the name vibramount). the whole thing comes unscrewed, not the bolt inside the rubber.
