Interior bicycle rack

Post by jsbaril »

Hi! Does anyone ever heard of a bicycle rack used with the interior tracks of the rear cargo space? Heard about it but didn't found anything specific for that purpose... It's supposed to hold the front of the byke with the wheel off. The front of the byke is facing the rear of the car.Any help would be appriciated! Thank's!

Hmm... I had made one at one point but I can't seem to find the post I made for it.Basically, I took a regular fork-mount clamp and mounted it to a piece of plate steel and then used machine screws to attach that rig to the cargo tracks in the rear. However, there were a couple of issues. For one, my bike has handlebar extensions. These made it difficult to get in the back without scraping the headliner. Also, my bike was a bit too long to fit in the back without putting it in at an angle. This made it horribly impractical as it was difficult to fit anything else in the car with the bike in there.Anyway, I no longer own my Vibe so I might just be convinced to sell the bike mount if the price was right (I'd have to find it again first, of course). Edit:Here we go...Quote »You can always do it like I've done too. I just bought a Yakima fork mount ($15 at a local shop), a piece of 14 Ga steel plate (freebie), a few screws (~$1), and a rubber sink mat ($1 at the Dollar Store). It's far from pretty, but it gets the job done.I had to place the forkmount at an angle on the steel since my bike is a little long and needs to sit at an angle in the car. It also keeps the bar ends away from the window. The only other thing to be aware of is that the cargo tracks use a metric thread. #6 as I recall. Here are some pics of the setup.http://homepage.mac.com/wmill/....html

Thank's! It helped me design my own. I'll use a Rhode Gear Pro truck shuttle bike fork mount. Waiting for part... Pretty confident that it'll work. Here's the link for the fork mount:http://www.overstock.com/cgi-b...&fp=F

i'm sure you've already measured your bike back there to see if it will fit vertically.......my road bike doesn't so on a trip last year i had to lean it against one side slightly (80deg from vertical) to have it fit. I was annoyed that i couldn't put together a fork mount inside....
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

Hi! Here it is! It's finished and ready to go!Few pics to show you how it got out! I just had to take the original bracket furbished with the car (the one that goes in the track...) and copied it with a small piece of metal the exact dimensions as the original one, but this time, the new bracket had matching threads with the Roadgear yellow handle. I have to take off the seat of my bike, and voilà! I'm 6' tall, so I have long legs and everything goes in place perfectly! Here's again the link for the Roadgear bike mount:http://www.overstock.com/cgi-b...&fp=FSee ya!
