Picked it up last night, it’s so much nicer than my Neon… feels very solid. I’m just taking it easy for now, trying to break it in right. I’ll keep the revs under 4k for the first 1000 miles, but give it short bursts of full throttle and then allow the rpms to fall back down in order to seat the rings properly. I make sure not to keep the rpms at a steady rate for too long, and take it easy on the clutch as much as possible. 1st oil change will be at 1000 miles (1st one’s free at my dealer anyway). That sound about right? That’s how I broke in all my other cars anyway…

I’ll get pics as soon as I can. Yeah but I don’t know which way to go… My wife and I had our hearts set on the GM (TRD) supercharger but at this point it looks like it won’t work on ‘05’s. I don’t want to mess with anything that will void the warranty so if the supercharger is out of the question, maybe just an intake & catback for now and unichip or aftermarket F/I set-up after the warranty expires? Seems like they hid some performance in this engine’s ECU since it’s running 10:1 C/R and using 87 octane. Advance the timing and run the hot stuff and I’m sure there’d be some noticeable gains. Honestly though, I didn’t buy the car looking for performance, just wanted something with more functionality that doesn’t feel like it can’t get out of its own way (cough, PT cruiser, cough). My Neon ACR had the 150hp motor and adjustable competition suspension, so it was fun to toss around twisty roads and still got 30+mpg highway, but putting large things, or my dog into it was a problem, especially when the kids were in the car too. The Vibe should have plenty of room for everything & everyone, and isn’t THAT much slower than my ACR just driving normally… seems like a great car so far. Besides I also own an SRT-4 so if I get the itch to go fast I just hop in that

Lol yeah I have a few simple mods on it already and at least for now it’s fast enough… would have get some wider wheels or something if I’d do any more. 1st gear is almost useless as it is… it even has traction issues from a 2nd gear roll at times. I threw on some BFG KDW’s up front on Thursday so we’ll see if they help any once they’re worn in. I’d really like it for the vibe to have a bit more kick, but it can wait if need be, I’m pretty sure I’ll end up going the f/I route.

"Feel" is a good choice or words here because I think the difference is more perception than reality. I had a 2001 PT Cruiser. PT ownership overlapped the 2003 Vibe by about 9 months, then traded the PT on a 2004 T&C swb as the PT was out of warranty and we wanted one car that was bigger for longer trips. The PT's 2.4L didn't rev up like the Vibe 1.8L when accelerating but I think the 0 to whatever was about the same as the Vibe. The Vibe does have better mpg and hopefully due to its Toyota heritage it will have better long range reliability. That said, I miss some of the unique comforts of my PT Cruiser. Due to some unique circumstances I got my 18,690 msrp vibe for about 13,650. Having owned both, comparing todays prices PT vs Vibe I could go either way.

Breaking it in would be a good idea. Mine jolts from 1st to second...also now that the warentee has expired my struts in the back are starting to groan I can feel problems rolling along when my S-Techs get here...

Having owned both, comparing todays prices PT vs Vibe I could go either way. i've driven my boss's PT vs my former VGT, and i will say it was slow slow slow! but that's comparing the PT to the VGT not to a base vibe. that, i don't know. however, i do drive the hubby's base vibe every so often, but it feels super slow compared to my legacy, so again, it's tough to say. I still think that his would take my boss's auto PT in a race, no problem! even without his cai or any other performance parts.
