The other night I decided to go for a drive after a long hot day at work and whinny kids at home. I just got into Menasha and noticed a car riding my @zz then changes lanes , then back on my @zz again up to a stop light. After the light turns green I start to pass an Explorer that was in front of me. I wasn't even doing 40mph in the 35 zone when all of the sudden I see the red and blue cherries of law enforcment. (removed), for once I'm not even speeding! I pull over right away even though he felt the need to turn the siren on until I came to a complete stop. Then I always turn my dome lights on so they can see everything in my car (and to hid the tinted window a little). So I here the officer approching from behind when all of the sudden I hear him yell "Driver, turn off your engine and I want to see both your hands on the steering wheel." ((removed)!) "Now, roll down both your back windows." (he's lucky I have auto windows). I glance in my mirror to look at this guy I see him holstering his weapon!!! Then he walks up next to me and tells me to relax! Ya, K.He then tells me why I've been pulled over. Because I forgot about the red lghtbulbs I installed on the license plate for a car show and he couldn't see my license plate unless he was right on it (hence why he was riding my @zz?). And to inform me that if your muffler is not stock it's illegal. So I asked him if that counted for any car over 3 years old and has had the muffler replaced from rusting. He said no, only if it's noticably loud. I really wanted to argue with him but held back since he did have a weapon on me just a moment ago. So I just asked him about if I was just passing through town would I get a ticket. He said that he wasn't too concerened about it but if I get stopped like 6 times for it he would. He also asked me if I work for the city (Fire/Rescue plates), I said no I worked 15 yrs for Plymouth until I move to Appleton. I usually have a good relation with cops cause of those plates (professional courtisy). He ends up giving me a written warning about the lights and the exhaust then sends me on my way. I turned around and got the hell out of that town. Thank's officer for making me feel welcomed in your little town with a felony stop (not quite, but as close as I ever want to get!). @zzhole

Funny... I got pulled over in Menasha this Spring... got a written warning for tinting on my Contour. It tested legal... 50% on the driver/pass windows - 35% back three.I even rolled the windows down and turned on my dome light for him. I like cops, but this guy was a jerk. He kept checking under my car... but my exhaust was factory - still had ford stamped on the muffler. Glad you didn't get a ticket! Do you think you would have gotten one if you were younger or didn't have the plates?

Having a healthy rumble of a flowmaster isn't anything to get a cops panties in a bunch - I wouldn't think. Unless you were pulling 7k
It's unfortunate some traffic stops are like that, but I guess if I was a police officer, I really wouldn't like to be walking up on a vehicle, in the dark, not knowing what I was in for either.I DO NOT want this thread to start into a debate on high speed chases, but thought I'd post a link to a story of a police officer that was killed last night in our area. The way I read it, two police officer's crusiers collided at an intersection while pursuing a car. I feel very sorry for the officer's family and friends.I don't really think being respectful to a police officer when you are stopped is asking too much. I wouldn't want to do their jobs, or be subjected to the dangers involved in their every day patrol. http://www.wnem.com/Global/sto...5cDRf
"Then I always turn my dome lights on so they can see everything in my car (and to hid the tinted window a little.)" Sounds like you've had some practice. The cop didn't do anything wrong. Hidden plates and black out windows in a loud car probably made him think that you may be a threat to his community. The plates and windows are a good combo if you don't want to be identified. His heart was pumping as much as yours. He pulled you for a valid violation and LET YOU GO with a warning and you call him an @sshole. Gees, the guy's doing his job in manner that would negate a misunderstanding of the situation. Safest for everyone. "I really wanted to argue with him but held back since he did have a weapon on me just a moment ago." Like he would shoot you during the coversation. He won't miss your absence.
