do they make aftermarket window antennas

Post by jeffgtx »

that mount (mount is a bad word) so that you can get rid of the wire antenna?you know, the ones that look like defrosters. i keep searching, but can't find anything. all i ever come up with are TV antennas or glass mount anteenas for cell phones.

I saw some in some of the cars i was looking at before i bought the vibe..and if im not mistaken, arent they in th glass?? the one for the continental was. so if my theory is correct you would need to wire the antenna to the window and get a special rear window.

Yes indeed, the antenna is on the glass itself, not unlike a rear defroster grid...I remember on the cars back in the '70s with the windshield antennas - the hair thin wires inside the glass that went vertically up the center of the windshield from the bottom, then went horizontally. Basically made a dipole antenna, i guess. Anywho, I don't know of any aftermarket window antenna grid kits... They may have something out there, not sure...

A bit off the topic but we are talking about hidden antennae. My brother has an '02 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and he doesn't have a friggin antenna. I can't find it anywhere. It's not built in to the windshield either. Anyone know where they hid the thing?

Or in the wing? The fiberglass or plastic moldings are perfect for running an antenna through.

It's not really 'interwoven' with the defroster. The antenna is on the top like..6" of the window. I don't know if they have aftermarket ones or not...but they do have small amplified hide-away antennas. Circuit City carries them and they're made by Metra.

not to highjack the thread but, ive noticed that the reception with fm kinda sucks on the vibe. In town i get some fuzzy when all my other cars were perfect. the itrip for my ipod works great if i have it on the right station. so if there was a better antenna it would kick (removed).
