Stuck in 3rd

My Vibe has a problem of staying in 3rd gear when accelerating if I do not let it sit and warm up in the cold weather. It is an AWD with automatic transmission. Anyone else experience this?

It may be designed like that? I know my GA wont shift into 3rd unless the engine is a certain temp. Not sure on the Vibe, though.

Anyone else experience this?How do you mean? It downshifts into 2nd or upshifts into 4th?I know my automatic shifts early and won't rev above 4000-rpms until the engine is fully warmed up. This is normal because the cam advance is operated with oil pressure and the oil has to be at operating temp to function properly.

the GT has a similiar feature. won't kick into lift until it warms up.

quote:the GT has a similiar feature. won't kick into lift until it warms up.Yeah, from what I understand the oil in the GT motor needs to be at a certain operating temperature as well before you can reach "take off".Thats why I always give it a few minutes before I punch the gas.

I'll be taking off-1st, then it goes to 2nd, then 3rd and will rev way up to about 4500 for about 1/8 mile. Again this is only if I do not let it warm up.
