Reminiscent of Ragingfish's Starbucks Experience....

Post by rebbierae »

I'm a huge diet Coke fiend, and always get it when it's on sale...I've been riding around with couple 12-packs in the back of Stella for a few days. Obviously diet Coke + heat = BAD NEWS, because this morning I opened the back to get the pop out, and a few cans had exploded ALL over the back. It's been an incredibly sh*tty week for me anyway, and seeing that about did me in--I just about started to cry, and wanted to just call in sick and go back home. But I didn't--I got some towels on break and cleaned it all up, and except for the mat in the back, it's pretty well cleaned up. Now I just need to figure out how to clean the mat and we'll be back in business. NOT a good start to a Monday! I already learned the hard way that diet Coke explodes in the cold....now I know it also blows up in the heat also! My car is now my little science experiment!

Doh! Well if there's solace to be found here, it's that someone else has had a poor Monday as well. I had to clean up two messes from my dog this morning, once before I left and once at lunch. Then when I came back from lunch and went to pull into the parking garage, my access card had been incorrectly disabled. Anyway, back to the real topic. Are the mats machine washable?

What are we, President and VP of the Mondays Suck club? My boyfriend told me to take the mat to a do-it-yourself carwash, spray some carpet cleaner on it, and then use the power washer on it...he said it should come out. Guess I'll keep you posted on that one as soon as I get it done!Sorry your Monday sucked too, Millster!

Heh, boy I guess. Haven't had a Monday like this in years. That's a thought on the carwash. Might just work. Be sure to leave it outside to dry though. Nothing worse than musty carpet smell in your car.Definitely post back with your experience in cleaning it.

My ultra-custom cut cargo mat washes great in the car wash. Hang it up on the clips on the wall - givem a good sudzing then rinse - then wash the car - mostly drip dry by the time I'm done with the Vibe.Works good on the floor mats too.

At least it was DIET coke...not nearly as sticky as the sugary stuff! (Can you tell I've had experience with both?)Lots of rinsing with my garden hose and sprayer made my floormat un-sticky. A previous vehicle had a permanently sticky trunk from similar accidents. (You'd think I'd learn!) No beverages get "stored" in this one for long. The worst it's been through is a big cup of soda that got spilled on the floormat...

Seriously?? DIET Coke is less sticky than regular Coke? Interesting. Well, I sort of forgot about the situation until I saw this thread--I suppose I'd better get that mat cleaned before it DOES stain. Ahh, the crap I do to support my habit.

OK, here's what you do. Go to the local spray off carwash, some of them even have clips on the wall to hold up the carpet. Spray off the carpet with the normal soap and rinse it off really well. Take the mat home and lay it out in the sun for an hour or 2 and it will dry right up.

Regular Coke is about 10% "sucrose and/or high fructose corn syrup". Diet Coke is just flavored and caramel colored water. If you had diet Sprite explode (no sugar, no color) you'd probably just have a nice lemon-lime smell.Years ago this happen to me - it was just the cans in the cargo area that were in the sun that got hot enought to explode. The ones on the floor in the back seat area did not explode. Of course today the cans seem to be made of thinner aluminum. Have to be careful not even to drop or bang the 12 packs against anything.

Thank God it wasn't beer. That would be alcohol abuse.

Actually just letting beer get hot enough to explode is alcohol abuse.Bloody marys. Gasoline mixed with tomato juice and a stick of celery. Must be an acquired taste...that I'm not planning on acquiring.

Well THAT'S your problem--your bartenders down there in NE don't know how to make a GOOD bloody mary!

Thanks Kari--I appreciate that! If I am EVER able to make it to any of the meets, I know who I'm gonna hang next to! I'm almost too embarassed to, what with my diet Coke stained back, and NO mods whatsoever. I really need to get busy.

Had a messy situation in my Jeep (which I traded in for the Vibe). Had a quart oil bottle under my seat. The thing would slide up by my feet, so I'd just kick it back. One morning, I noticed the floor was slippery. I had knocked the lid off the bottle with my foot, while driving, and the driver's side was full of 10W30. I was on my way to work (on a Monday) and stopped to get gas. I threw all the paper towels they had at the pumps onto the floor to soak it up.

Yep, you can hang out with me and James and any other sticks in the mud who may be present! We all had just as much fun in Michigan going to McDonald's for milkshakes and standing around in the parking lot talking, actually. As for having no mods...the best part of coming to the meets is the people. I had no mods when I came to the Ohio meet last year...ragingfish installed my first mod that day, actually. It's cool to see everybody's mods, but I think just getting to meet people in person and hang out and have a good time is the best part.

I know..I would love to meet all of you guys--thought about going to the Ohio meet since that's the closest one there has ever been to me, but I just don't know that I can afford it. I loved my car when I first got it, and reading this site and talking to all of you has just made me even more passionate about my little Vibe, and I'd love to meet more people like me--guess I'll just save my pennies so someday I can meet up with everyone, and then get the mod bug--because unless you count a couple overlays from Grafxwerks, I have NONE!

I count GrafxWerks stuff as one of my mods... I had absolutely nothing when I came to Ohio last year...not even that!I hope you can make it to a meet sometime though...it's a lot of fun and I'd love to meet you.

As far as the carpeting, it was a 1993 Jeep with 158,000 miles, so the mess didn't bother me all that much. She was starting to show her age. (Hail damage, and some rust poking through thanks to it's years in South Dakota ) Now, if that were to happen with my Vibe?!? I think I would have had a heart attack

Wow! I told my boyfriend the other night that I wanted to have mine detailed and he rolled his eyes, because I probably haven't even had the car long enough to warrant that! But I really just need to do that car wash thing and get the mat cleaned...I THINK I got the rest of the soda-pop cleaned out of the car, but I was pretty pissed when I was doing it, so maybe I should go look again today and make sure I got it all.

If you come to the Ohio meet, I'll bring a case, it's from the oldest brewery in the country out of Pottsville, PA. It's good lager. OK done hijacking, sorry.
