what i gather is that the police felt like real sissies because they couldnt save the guy, so they made the hero look like a criminal to help their image.in all reality, they will recieve tons of hatemail and ridicule for a long time.

Their reasoning is sound, they don't want to have to save 2 people, but the fact is he safely recovered the person with no harm to either of them, they should have just left him alone instead of getting an attitude.
