I'm an old school drag & street racer. I understand clutches, transmission and engines. But I have been looking for a new clutch set up for my slipping Vibe GT.I have found Ceramic & Kevlar-Ceramic clutches with 4 & 6 pucks, that claim upto 90% more holding power then stock. But they don't say if they are streetable, racing or both.No mention of expected life.Does anyone have experiance with these, or the Pro and Cons? Also with a aluminum fly wheel which is lighter then stock, They will wind up quicker. But, will that take away from the torque? What is the life of these compared to stock steel flywheels?
The puck discs should last longer but are difficult to use om the street. Plan on less smooth street launches and the lighter flywheel will compound this. Once you're rolling it really doesn't matter. If you got a GT, I wouldn't bother with the flywheel. Ours is already pretty light for a Vibes weight and a lighter one will also make it harder to land lift in shifts. No power is lost or gained from a flywheel. Its a difference in kinetic and potential energy your dealing with and a couple of pounds of rotational mass is nothing compared to everything else you spinning when in gear. Your spinning the clutch, some tranny gears, diff, axles, CVs. 4 brake discs with hubs, and 4 wheels with tires. I know somebody is thinking that 4 wheels and brakes is wrong but think of the front and back tires being connected by the surface they sit on, much like a belt. Your decreasing this rotational mass by about 1% with the lighter flywheel and compared to pulling the rest of the cars weight, the flywhell effect is neglegable. There great for AX on a base and allow quicker shifts but the GT's is fine as is. Look at a RPS organic clutch unless you're really hard core. It's good for 230 ft lbs of torque. Let the flaming begin. Happy 4th everone.

In not so technical terms, I agree.Changing out the flywheel is pretty much throwing away money...I just got mine resurfaced and it's doing great.I just have a 'stock replacement' clutch kit that I found at Advance Auto Parts, and thus far, it's holding up great! Grips a lot better than stock, too.I'd agree, don't bother with 4 or 6 puck unless you're willing to put a lot more work into using the clutch. An organic clutch, or even stock replacement will do you wonders over the lackluster stock clutch..

I was thinking the RPS because he races a lot but yea, there all better than stock. I did the big flywheel bit because it will come up before this discussion is over.

I'll take a look at RPS.I've been serious looking at the A.C.T. set up.They don't seem to list many under the VibeGT, they offer them under the Celica GTS and the Matrix XRS which use's the same part number.I just don't want to have this trouble again, So I don't care so much about the cost.
