Now THAT, my friends, truly was a belligerent waste of tax dollars. We can't give NY the money it needs (STILL) to recover from 9/11, but hey, let's go crash some stuff in space!

WE SAW IT!My son and I are members of a local astronomy club. We went to our observing site out in the desert last night to watch it. This is a very dim comet, with our 8" scope in a dark sky location we could just barely make it out at first. We were streaming JPL audio over wireless internet. Shortly after the impact, the comet actually got brighter. Enough that when we looked we could actually see a pinpoint of light, where before there was just a dim fuzzy spot. After a while (maybe 40 minutes or so) the image began to grow dimmer again.Very cool mission, hopefully will get some good science by analyzing the impact.

Good job, that is something your son will remember for the rest of his life.
