My vibe is no more...

Post by tangerine »

I live out in the sticks and yesterday afternoon (ironically i was headed to the hospital for pre-op for my hand surgery) on the way there about 5 miles from my house I was hit head on by an electric company truck who came around a curve on my side of the road. The guy didn't attempt to move over and had no break marks. The front end of my car is gone, the engine was shoved into my dash, my front axel was broken in two and the front left wheel was laying in the road, my subs flew back and busted my rear hatch open and my left arm busted the drivers window out. The guy who hit me walked away without a scratch and he made em get out of the car and being in shock i did it not realizing i should not have moved incase i had back injuries. I asked him to call my parents and he said he had no signal but then he calls his work since he was in a company vehicle. a registered RN luckily drove by and saw me leaning against the car and made me set in her car and she called the accident in. He told her not to worry about calling an abulance that he already did so she listened to him. 15 minutes later highway patrol shows up and my parents ask where the ambualnce is and he says there was never one called in and he immediately called one in. 2 hours later i finally get an ambulance out there and got taken to the E.R. my seatbelt across my chest left a complete bruised seatbelt mark and the waist peice left a bruise print as well as cutting my stomach open everywhere that it tightened up around me, other than the seatbelt bruises and my kidney getting bruised I will be fine. I had a small peice of metal in my shoulder and blood in my uruin that eventually stopped. seeing that truck coming at me was probably the scariest thing I'v ever expierienced.

Glad you are alright, for the most part. Vibes seem to be dropping like flies lately. But at least the owners are walking around.

I'm still really amazed at how well the car held up for an impact at the speed we were going, i know i was going speed limit which is 60 right there but we don't know how fast i was going at impact, i left 50 ft of skid marks. It could have been alot worse. Both air bags did deploy and the passenger airbag busted a hole in the passenger window they said. I had to kick my door open but the car did its job keeping me safe for the most part. I'm not sure what to get now... I really hate the front end on the new vibes and I never buy a used car so i may end up getting a matrix to replace it. my mom wants we to get a chrystler crossfire but i said eew. I fell in love with my vibe and it hurts letting it go, so far its turned out to be the best car I'v owned.

I'd get something with a lot of safety features. I lived outside of St. Louis for 4 years and have to say that Missouri has a lot of really bad drivers. Have to be really defensive, as there are plenty of idiots like the one that hit you.On a side note: South Dakota drivers are just as bad.

I think your Vibe more than proved it can protect you. I really feel bad for you guys loosing your rides like this but I gotta feel great about driving a Vibe. Hope the soreness leaves quickly.

Glad you're ok.Don't turn your back on a used Vibe, new cars sometimes make you feel like you've been used. Find a low mile car, or a lease turn-in.PS the Crossfire, while ugly, is basically a reskined Mercedes SLK coupe......I like them...they will grow on ya!

yea missouri has some very stupid drivers. what really gets me is how this guy saw my bright (removed) orange car, and yea if you couldnt see this car after i spent 9 and a half hours detailing it tuesday and i got it out in the sunlight yesterday you've got problems. he didn't even try to move into his lane and I thought he would. If i had hit the ditch to avoid him i wouldn't have walked away but when he hit me it sent my car stratling the ditch. My dad just got home and told me i don't wanna see it, he said when he went to get my belongings out that the back end of the car was ripped off when the tow truck pulled it out of the ditch. all the money I'v spent in that car..gone. But, I guess like the paramedics said, atleast i was hit by a company and not a civilian...the company 'will' have to pay up for the damages where alot of people won't be able to afford it.

I may get on 05 and put psyco's body kit on it, i just hate the huge grill with the polished aluminum around it. I could also find out if the 2 peice front end from the 03-04 years can be ordered from pointiac and do it that way i guess...

Sorry to hear about you Vibe...But if you do get an '05 and decide to swap the nose the 03-04 front ends show up on eBay from time to time. Or maybe a junkyard around you has some Vibes you can pull the parts from for less... If not the part numbers are in this thread.

I can only imagine what it must have been like for you, take care of yourself and heal up. I'd expect your mom to tell you get a freakin hummer or something relatively indestructible, those crossfires are cool and all but they look like they'd provide no help in an accident, can't be as safe as your loyal Vibe, which sacrificed itself to save you.

That it did, and I think she wants me to get a crossfire so she can have it and give me her SS silverado. She's been hinting at my dad to trade that truck in and get her one for a few months now. This was my show car, as well as the car i drove to work so what ever i get is gonna have to be a hatchback or SUV but SUVs get horrid gas milage.

Glad you're OK!It's bad to lose so many Vibes to serious crashes, but it IS comforting that the real-world experiences match the good PUBLISHED Vibe laboratory front crash safety ratings.

I'm not one for lawsuits just for the sake of suing, but tangerine easily has two good cases against incompetant people - one against the original driver/company and the other against this hospital. Overlooking something of this magnatude is inexcusable...

my dad called the highway patrol officer to find out what he did and the officer gave the guy who hit me a sitation. What pissed us off about the highway patrol officer is he arrived at the scene, came strait to me and asked for my liscense and insurance (never asked how i was doing or asked my story) then went to the other guy (and he had his company people on the scense before anyone showed up) talked to him for a minute, did a measurement of the tred marks i left and the chunk of pavement my front left wheel took out when it busted off then sat in his car. My parents had to ask him twice to call an ambulance. He finally called an ambulance, wrote the driver his sitation and left. He didn't even wait on the ambulance. The electric company had their ticket, their tow truck there and vehichle removed and cleared out before my ambluance got there. By the time i was loaded into the ambulance it was just me, my parents, and the two paramedics. The paramedics were the only people who werer curteous and knew what they were doing the entire time. I really wish i knew how i could get ahold of them and thank them.(I'll try and post the pictures tonight, my dad took them and doesn't want to take the camera out and look at them again. He's still pretty shaken up because my sister was killed by a drunk driver a few years backa nd its hard for him still.)

I'm dumbfounded by what you must be going through. I hope that you're keeping lots of notes of everything that's happened...including all the followup work you're having to do. I astounded that the officer at the scene was so insensitive as to leave before the ambulance arrived. I can't even imagine what your parents went through; it must have been awful for them.Even if you're not considering litigation, I'd seriously suggest contacting a lawyer or at least consulting with your insurance agency's attorneys to make sure everything is taken care of. I'd also suggest that you have your doctor examine you again soon to ensure that you have no complications from the accident that might affect your ability to work.I'm not talking about setting up for a big lawsuit; I just want you to make sure you don't get screwed.Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.
