XENON 8500K HID visibility in bright sunlight?

Post by stahl »

I just put in these Euro DeZigns 8500K HID headlights I got off eBay. Right now the sun is grilling my car (and drying out the fresh tint - 35% front, 17% back, whee). I turned on the car and turned on the headlights, but I can barely see any visible light. I did see a little bit o'blue on the garage (which is painted bright white). Is this, uh, normal? I'm guessing yes. I should probably check back later tonight and make sure they work when it counts. If someone knows, please be brutally honest and tell me whether they're junk. P.S. What's that molten carmel looking gook on the contacts when I disconnected the factory bulbs? Some sort of insulation against wetness? I didn't wipe off what was left of it. Is that something I should buy in a tube and put more of it back on?

Oh yes, I'm aware they're not true HID. That would have been one heck of a deal for under $20, in which case I would have turned around and sold them for profit. lol.

Here's a few pics from half an hour ago. I'll take some more later tonight. My never-been-washed 2005 base manual non-m&t Vibe: Peek into the interior. Really cheap seat covers I bought at ALDI in Germany for about $5.99: The car is running, the lights are turned on. Barely visible looking at it slightly diagonally Beaming straight into the lens. Looks like they do work. The car is not moving - I'm just dabbling with photoshop. Directly in front of the garage door:

You have to look DEAD on to the reflector to notice the hot spot...I'm sure they're visible to some degree...But...I won't like, you probably did get hoed. Any of those kind of bulbs are almost always junk. Of course, there's always some good ones...but I guess only time will tell.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Here's some more pictures. Was only about 8:30 and not really all that dark yet: I moved the car back a bit to get a better idea of how much light it would emit and the radius.
