What price should I pay for my new Vibe

Post by bellwilliam »

I am a newbie, so go easy on me.I want to buy a Vibe (base with auto). I am wondering what is a decent price one has paid?it currently has a $2000 rebate. I have $2003 GM Card rebate. not including the rebates, should I be paying a couple of hundred over invoice? I am trying to get the best deal I could. are there any special promotion going on right now? I just missed the $500 LA Auto Show discount.I have purchase over 3 GM using my GM card rebates, saving over $9000. I have received $1000 and $500 extra coupons in the past to make it into really great deal. an example, when I bought a Chevy Venture last year:$3500 factory rebate$3000 GM Card rebate$500 GMAC insurance rebate (it is taken off with insurance)$500 loyalty rebate (which I haven't got one in a while)$500 in GM settlement money for 1990 gas tank thing (I forgot exactly what it is).total was a $8000 under invoice (which is what I paid).btw, I only have $600 currently in my GM card rebate, but they sent me an offer to top my rebates to $2003 by 01/31/03, so I need to buy a Vibe by then.Reading many of the posts here, I found many purchased a Vibe, because of GM Card rebates. I wonder how much this is helping (or hurting because of generous 5%) GM in selling cars. also seems like of the people here had some kind of GM employee/supplier discount.

I am not sure on the price because I looked at GT models, however when I went to buy GM was having a special that everyone received GM employee pricing. That was on December 28th. So you may want to ask your dealer about that. My GT with 17's, 6 CD changer was 18,700 with no dealing at all. I got pretty lucky!Jason

I did a quick pricing with carsdirect.com (I bought my last 2 cars from them, no haggle, was in and out of the dealership in 25 minutes), GT with 17" wheel and 6 CD changer is $17,707 with current $2000 rebate. but this is without power group, tax and licenses. does your price include those items.btw, when buying a GM, don't forget to go through upromise.com for $150.

Yes, that was the final price. I did purchase an extended warranty but I did not include that. I was very lucky because there was a big push by GM in December to sell as many cars as possible because they were trying to show an increase in market share. It would add value for the stockholders. There was a rep there from GMAC that was giving out the finance deals as well. I'm paying 5.9% for 60 months, and I don't have great credit currently. I would call alot of dealers and ask what kind of specials they are running right now.Good Luck! May the force be with you

I would suggest going on the Pontiac website, choose the Vibe model you want, use the build feature to "build" a Vibe to your specs and then you will be taken to a screen where you can choose from several dealers in your area who will make offers through the internet. Their current inventories are also online for many of the dealerships, so you could look to see if any of them have exactly what you want. You can click on every dealership on the list, or only the ones you choose. The system on the website will send an email to the dealerships that you choose from the list, and a representative from the dealership will usually call you within 24 hours. I have gotten calls back within 1/2 hour of submitting my request before, so they are usually pretty quick. The benefit of online shopping for a car through this system is that you can get several price quotes quickly and you don't have to run all around town. Another benefit is the prices themselves. I used this system and the dealer where I bought my Vibe from had an online pricing policy of offering the cars in their inventory for $100 over the invoice price, which saved me about $2000 off the sticker. You can then apply your credits and discounts to the price they quote you to make the deal even better. The only haggeling I had to do was over the value of my trade-in. The online system has worked well for me, and has saved me thousands on the 2 cars I have bought so far using it. My sister used it a few months ago to buy her new Corolla and she was very pleased as well. Best of luck with your car shopping!

I have to agree with Stang2Vibe. Go to the website and put in exactly what you are looking for as far as options go. Then take that price and take off the GM discount (if you get one), then add sales tax. After that, you can take off your rebates or down payments you have and you should be pretty close to what you will be paying.

Fair Price? Many members of this group were early buyers, before the Vibe was discounted by dealers in the US, or in Canada were supply has kept the price at/near sticker. Try a site like http://www.edmunds.com to get their idea of "Fair Market Value" for a purchase. I also have read that there is a dealer bonus of $1,000 on old cars in inventory pre-Sept '02. So there is no reason you shouldn't be able to get the car for $5,003 below the dealers asking price, on an old car. If GM is offering you an extra $1,400 in the GM card for the next week, don't worry over a couple hundred. Have your local dealer quote you a price an old Vibe (even if the have to swap it in) and buy it and join in posting here. Good luck.

i did what ma-vibe-fan suggested: went to http://www.edmunds.com and got the True Market Value (what others are paying) for a vibe with the options i wanted ("price with options" link). with this target price in mind, i sent emails to the Internet Sales Manager or the Fleet Manager (both deal in bulk sales and therefore, can start at a price near invoice) at various dealerships. once i had identified a dealership that seemed to have the highest desire to meet my price, i talked to the internet sales manager on the phone and came to a deal within 15 minutes. one hour in the dealership (including test drive) and the papers were signed. i didn't mention my GM credits until payment time....got the car for $400 under invoice (before rebate). for my first car buying experience, i have to say that using the internet saved me not only time and frustration, and also, money! a site like edmunds.com will give you (if available) the invoice, MSRP and TMV for options. this knowledge comes in handy when you are negotiating as you will know the price they paid for a particular accessory/option and can suggest that they include it to help them get down to the price you are willing to pay. the most important thing, bellwilliam, is to remember that it's YOUR money, so make sure you get what you want at a price you are willing to pay. Good Luck!!

I have used carsdirect.com the most, because it is part of Amazon, and it shows the purchase right away. Edmunds price is approximate, carsdirect shows the final price right away with rebates and incentives. you guys should try it.I didn't know about $1000 extra rebates for older model. I did see a local paper advertising $3000 off MSRP not including rebates, I thought that was probably bait and switch.it seems everyone is paying couple of hundred over invoice. plus rebates and GM card rebates. does anyone has any other idea to get lower pricing.thanks

Feel lucky now... When I bought my Vibe, the Edmunds True Market Value was exactly the same as the MSRP... LOL so I couldn't deal as much being so new of a vehicle using online information. I just priced the same options I have now in my Vibe and the TMV is a little over $1100.00 USD less than MSRP. I still got a decent deal at the dealership though.Otherwise, Edmunds and Carsdirect are good sites to get Invoice prices, MSRP, reviews, etc.

Seems I'll be getting mine at invoice since I'm a GM employee, $2100.00 on my GM blue card and 0% financing instead of the $2000.00 cash back. Thats the best I seem to be able to get. I wish I purchased during the last two weeks of Dec. when they where offering the bonus bucks.

I did something like that. They didnt have a GT model listed close to what I wanted. So, I printed out exactly what I wanted, took it too my regular dealer and told them to find me as close to this vehicle as they could, and they did. So, if the website doesnt show anything close to what you want, print it out and make a deal with a dealer.

Hearing about all these great deals and my own recent experience have convinced me that cars are Not Selling right now. Via the net, one guy offered me a Vibe GT at $500 under my supplier discount. But I had a trade and he was long distance away, so I was afraid of wasting a day on a low-ball offer. By the way, the Supplier Discount worked out to right at 5.7% off of list. Actual dealer cost (aside from any special "old inventory" )remains about 11% under sticker price. The "invoice" at a dealership isn't their actual cost like most other businesses. And - they do have room to negotiate below the supplier discount, although most of them will fight you tooth and nail.

Lorin, I just got back from Pontiac dealer to check out the colors. the dealer told there is a $500 loyalty lease rebate. if you were a current GM leasee, you get $500 rebate. Too bad I don't have a lease but finance with GM, so I get nada. It is $750 if you a current Pontiac lease.checked on carsdirect.com, it shows I could buy a Vibe for $25 under invoice right away. I am thinking going to my local dealer asking for may be $300 under invoice, wonder if they will bite.Vibe is not selling very well here in southern California, I see about 20 Matrix for every Vibe, which is exactly why I don't want a Matrix
