In Dash DVD player

Recommendations for an in dash DVD/CD player as a replacement for the stock CD player for a 2003 Vibe? I want one that plays DVDs while the car is moving, for my kid not me. Any recommendations are welcome and tips on installation are appreciated.I was thinking about something like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-a...AD300TIA.

It may be hard to find one that will play while the car is moving, because I believe it is illegal in most states, if not all, to have a DVD playing within the sight range of the driver, whether you're watching it or not, while the vehicle is in motion.Might be easier to just buy a portable DVD player at Best Buy and plug it into the household outlet in the dash.

Anything but Alpine, Pioneer AVIC-D1, AVIC-N2. Alpines are a pain in the (removed) to get them to play video as part of the 'safety' scheme.Most Kenwood, Pioneer, Panasonic, and Sony only require you to ground the Parking Brake wire to get video to play.There's a Jensen/Audiovox VM-9510 for about $700-800 that's a 7" in-dash with built-in DVD player and TV tuner. In my opinion it's got a better screen than ANY other in-dash unit. I don't think it has a touchscreen, but it works pretty darn well.Circuit City used to carry it. They will NOT hook it up so you can watch video while moving, but it's pretty easy to do.Again, any Alpine will be a pain in the (removed) to bypass, as you usually have to turn on the handbrake, then tap the brakes twice, then turn off the handbrake, then turn it back on. Like I said...PITA.

True...the N1 will do it -without- the latest software. But that only affects the front screen.If you're looking to have video -up front-, then my suggestion earlier works. Most units will do what Sh@dow does, with video in the rear, but you can control it up front. The AVIC-N1/N2/D1 does navigation as well, but the D1 doesn't have DVD playback built in.Sooo...if you're looking for up-front video, then my suggestion stands. If you're looking for something for the rear, then I can make different suggestions!

No, I'm just looking for the front. The Jenson VM-9510 looks nice, it even has the option to run a second screen in the rear if you want. Jahntassa, do you have an experience wiring one of these? Do you have a recommended place to buy. I was looking at Crutchfield.com and they don't sell the 9510, only 9410 and it just looks like plug and play. Is this true? Thanks for the advice. I just ordered the Jensen VM-9410 since i really don't need the TV tuner/antenna. I hope i don't have any problems getting it to play video while moving.Got it off Ebay for $499

it is usually pretty easy to trick it out so that it will play video while driving. I know back in the day you used to be able to set up the wire that had to go to the parking brake to a constant ground or power which ever one it needed to make it work. But then again I have been out of it for so many years I am not sure how the new stuff works.

For giggles, how much did it cost, or would it cost for a mere citizen, to install a screen/dvd player in the headrest? Two kids, many hour plus drives...hjwii2005 5 spd, Neptune and splotchy grey on the hood, Sirius.... and other things...

The DVD excitement is contagious. My wife and I picked up the install pieces at Circuit City yesterday. So I showed her the model I ordered. Now she wants to get the rear headrest LCD screens (both sides) and we only have one kid.

It might be more convenient to consider one of the flip-down ceiling mounted screens at that point.. Especially if you only have one kid!

I’m up for recommendations on a LCD drop down. I searched and searched the net and could not find a write up for an install of a drop down for a Vibe or Matrix. Is the any support or brace above the dome light behind the sunroof? What about wiring it?Thanks again for the help.

I'd need to get a snapshot from someone like ragingfish as to the bracing up there... Depending on the size of the screen, though, and if it has a built-in dvd player, you might not need any. The headliner is pretty strong... If you have like a 7" or 8" flip-down without a built-in dvd player, it should be fairly easy.Screens will need power (usually ground, switched, and constant), and video. All of this goes to the headunit. Though, on the N1, the video might need to go to the brain. So, all of the connections can come out the headliner, down the B-column on the passenger side (where the passenger seatbelt is), and either down to the brain, or up the side of the car to the dashboard and to the radio itself.With the N1, you can select pretty much any source to go to that rear monitor. The built-in DVD player, the Navi screen, or an external source (like a second DVD player or playstation or something)

Correct. It should be a light-green wire labelled 'p.brake'. Connect that to the black ground wire for the radio and you should be good.
