Replacing the battery...

Post by DetroitFolly »

It seems easy enough...is it? What do I need to be careful of? The current battery is dead...I couldn't believe how much corrosion took place since I last checked it two weeks ago. (removed)?????Anyway, it seems like I could change it myself. Any tips would be appreciated!

It's not hard at all.If you have an intake, unplug the MAF sensor. After that, unbolt the negative battery cable. Wait a minute or 2 then unbolt the positive cable. Then remove the bolt in the front that holds the tie down. Unhook the far end of the tie down. The battery then lifts straight out. When you put the new on in, attach the positive cable first then the negative cable last.

Any tips would be appreciated! The corrosion is caused by the gases generated by a bad cell in the battery - then venting out the vents. The particles are still charged, so they're attracted to the terminals. It's nasty stuff and great tell tale sign the box of lead is dead.

You asked what to be careful of...DO NOT let the wrench you are using touch the terminal and metal of your car at the same time. People have welded their tools to the metal doing that lol
