First click at pump pretty consistent?

Post by 21Rouge »

I know it isnt a good idea to 'over'fill the gas tank but I often do....its a habit. I record my gas mileage and was wondering if you find that filling until the pump shuts off, for the first time, happens generally at the same volume? If so I will fill till the first click.

I can usually squeeze in a few more litres. The pump would click off at say $25 and I could get it to $30 before stopping. Did that the whole drive up to Alaska. Basicly I could get 200km on the trip gauge before the fuel needle moved.

On almost every pump, I can get a full two gallons more in after the first click. Don't know why the vibe is like that, my other cars are never more than a few tenths. So, since I can almost always get an extra 2 gallons in, to answer your question the first click is probably pretty consistent.

My mileage is very consistent, and I fill up at a whole bunch of different stations as I travel all over the area. I always stop at the first click, so it must be pretty consistent in order for the mileage to be.I used to "top off" my previous car, until I was visiting my brother and tried to "top off" his car, and gas came gushing out all over the place. Ugh, what a mess.

i had a previous vehicle splash me from head to toe with gas before it ever hit the first click. i *always* stop at the initial cut-off, and i only go to gas stations that have the little tabs installed on the pumps to let me step away while the tank is filling.

Sounds like a faulty pump handle.I always put a lot of extra gas in. My old Dakota could hold another good gallon before it would start to overflow out of the fuel door. Teh Vibe isn't to much different. I will usually keep filling up to the next round dollar amount.

From the mileage/gas gauge I pretty much know how much it will take to fill and don't pump past the automatic cut off.

I always just fill up to the first click. It's always been pretty consistant. I don't want to risk having fuel spill out on the paint or myself just to be able to put a little more gas in. I don't see much point in that other than being able to put a few more miles on per tank.

I can second this!!! I also will get another 2 gallons in after the first click....Trick is to go slow or you will spill.

First click and no more than that. Tried more once and got gas down the side of the car. Good thing I was near a car wash.

Many gas stations have gotten rid of the lock on the gas pump handles for safety reasons. It may be a law in some areas? It is not a good idea to defeat it by sticking something in there (like a gas cap).On a similar topic, anyone else concerned about the chintzy gas cap on the Vibe?

Crazy! - filled up last night and put more gas in after the first click, and only got another 0.4 gal.If it was 2 gal, I'd be seriously underestimated how much fuel I had left when the emtpy light comes on,

ironically, just 2 days ago i was at a gas station and the click wasn't working...next thing i know i've got gas pouring down the side of the car!i wasn't impressed.i think it was only about a litre or so but caught me off guard. I ended up 'washing' the side of the car with the squeegie.i usually round up to the next dollar after the first click. just to save a pocket full of change!
